Phone not fit for purpose - where do I stand?

I won't bore you guys with the details again, but suffice to say, I think the ring volume on the SGH-P300 phone is unacceptably low.

I've had the phone about 6 weeks, and love almost every other feature of it, but was thinking of ringing O2 and asking them to replace it with a different handset ((Nokia N80 please ).

Has anyone ever had experience of this sort of 'complaint' / replacement handset request previously? Have I left it too late?!?!?

I heard a rumour that O2 were no longer selling these phones, but I don't know why and if it's true.

Thanks,

Dem.

I don't think its o2's problem in all honesty unless you got the phone direct from an o2 shop.

They will take the phone in for testing and if they find there is nothing wrong with the phone they will just send it back to you.

They will just see it as your trying to pull a fast one and trying to get a new phone (different make as well)

I see you're point, but genuinely, I'n not trying to pull a fast one. As I mentioned, I really like the phone, but I just cannot understand how Samsung could release it with such a low volume ring. In about 50% of situations, I miss calls, where I never would with any of my previous phones. I did obtain the phone from O2 directly (an internet sale), so contacting them is appropriate. Just a case of how many other complaints they have had about this phone I guess!

I have this phone and love it. There are a few ringtones on it that vibrate at the same time, I'm a DJ by trade so it's always in my pocket - hence the vibrate. With the sound levels at work I would never hear it ring anyway!

I thought about possibly using an mp3, and editing it in Cool Edit Pro so that I could increase the volume of the actual mp3 before the transfer to phone. That way I could select in profiles whether I wanted my mp3 or the vibrating ringtone when I am at work.

I doubt O2 will help you though.

First thing they will probably do is to replace it with the same model (even if they don't sell it they will probably still have stock for swap purposes). Or they will attempt a repair, where they will test the sound output against a scale, in this case they may find the phone acceptable and hence will refuse your claim.

I have no idea if the Samsung is in the same league as the N80, but I rate your chances as low. Best of luck anyway.

Can't be bothered to complain to O2 (not their fault anyway) and the phone is cute, so probably keep it as a spare. Samsung have ignored my second E-mail to them about the phone - great customer service! First and last time I buy any Samsung product if that's their way of dealing with customer comments!
