External screen troubles

OK, first of all I'd like to thank Ram33 for recommending me an excellent phone repair man who has sorted out the deadness of my Samsung E770 for only £25. However, whilst almost everything on the phone is working perfectly, the external screen does not seem to be working. It's understandable that the repair man didn't notice this as he probably only tested the phone in the open position as the battery was not working. Also, the internal screen does not automatically turn off when I close the phone either. Everything else including the camera works fine.

To me this sound like a loose connection inside but I could be wrong. I'd rather not have to send the phone away again so does anybody have an idea what the problem is and if there's a quick fix?
