Advice needed: what PDA/sat nat system? - £250

Hi all

I know absolutely nothing about PDAs etc, but am looking for something for work to make my life a bit easier!

Looking for a decent personal organiser with TomTom built in. Menus and navigation/ease of use are essential, and I'd need all the bits for it to go in the car too. Anyone got any suggestions for £200-£250? As currently I have no idea where to start!

Cheers
Matt

Any flexibility on budget? If you could stretch a bit would open up a lot more options. Personally speaking I would keep the pda and the sat/nav separate. TomTom's are good in my experience. I have had one of the original TomTom Go's since Feb last year and have been using it on a more or less daily basis, over the SW of the Country. I could go for weeks on end without picking up a map book! TomTom start at around £280 RRP but there are Garmins which are cheaper. The Palm Tungsten E2 is a good basic pda, for calendar, contacts, etc. Can be had for £150.

I could go to £300. Why keep them separate? With 2 mobiles, an iPod sat nav and an iPaq, my suit pockets are going to be bursting on days when I'm out of the office lol

the budget may be too low unless u go second hand.
im running tomtom on my pda/phone and it cost around £200 for all the tom tom stuff and car mounts, then of course pda on top of that (prob get a good one for around £150 2nd hand) then ul want a bigger mem card for flexibility, perhaps a 2gb card so u can loose the ipod? then get an xda/mda style phone pda and u can loose one of the phones u have 2.

so ur pda will be a pda lol, sat nav, phone and ipod in one.
with the tomtom on ur pda u can also take it with u when u get a new pda in the future

I'm not interested in the phone aspect, just need it as a diary/organiser (and to be able to synch with outlook), and sat nav. One of my friends picked something like this up - including tomtom - for £280 a few months ago. Palm pilot T5 or something like that?

Should be able to find a HP IPAQ 2200 series with BLuetooth built in for about £100 on fleabay, add another £150ish for TomTom5 Navigator software with GPS receiver and that leaves you with about £50 for a car mount. The Brodit active mounts are the best I've found, you should be able to get one of these with the Proclip screwless mount system for your car for about £50 from www.handnav.co.uk

all in your £300 budget

I just prefer to keep mine separate. Sat/nav stays in the car, pda stays on me. If your pda packs up (a multitude of things can go wrong, running out of memory, too many applications, etc. which can all affect the gps side of things). But each to their own, I suppose. As regards, pda/satnav bundles there are loads out there. Spec for the pda aspect does not need to be too extravagent if all you are after is basic PIM funcionalty, and the TomTom Nav 5 is one of the best GPS add-ons.

If you go for pda/satnav bundle make sure that you can charge both the receiver and the pda from the one cigarette lighter charger lead.

This looks reasonable ...
