o2 gprs data billing

i just phoned up o2 cs, quering why i didnt get billed for gprs at all since my contract started. my online bill always says '0' next to usage (which is obviously not true, as i use it a fair bit) and the cs guy asked me to look in my unbilled sage for data for this month. surprise surprise it says 0. he found that strange, and after a short hold period i was told that i havent started to be billed for it yet. he also said that i would not be back-billed for it. which shocked me, as ive read a lot about people getting £300 backdated bills for data usage for a few months.

now he guaranteed that i wont get charged for what ive used already in previous months, but that charging could start at any time (he couldnt tell me when).
i asked him if i keep an eye on the unbilled usage screen on my account (baring in mind its 48hrs behind) for any activity to show up, would this be a good idea, and he said yes, tho i could start getting charged at any time.

is it just me or are o2 completly incompetant? if i had known i wouldnt have got billed in april, i would have gone download crazy, and not have been to careful. now all i have to do is be careful, and check the o2 website near enough daily to see if ive started to get charged (at which point ill stop browing/recieving emails so i dont go over the limit) its quite annoying.

has anyone else had experience with this? if so what have o2 told you? for record im using an o2 xda mini s.

This has been pretty well-documented. Apparently they started billing properly at the start of May. For obvious reasons they didn't trumpet it from the rooftops....
