MDA-Pro with Web 'n' Walk (T-Mobile)

Is there really no catch?

It seems too good to be true -

12 month contract.
£27.50 a month
Unlimited data
£170 for the PDA.

Any feedback on your experiences with either the Web 'n' Walk contract and/or the MDA-Pro?

well iv got a simfree version of the mda pro aka qtec 9000 and i lurve it!

i dont care about the size i like the fact that iv always goteverything i need communications wise in one box, plus movies games, music sat nav.

im also a phone dealer and i dont concentrate on t mobile for commision reasons but iv said to everyone know personally that the new mobile plans are great! the flex and web n walk tarrifs with added unlimited gprs are a dream!
theres a lot of angry o2 customers now coz of this (o2 was the daddy of cheap data services)

snap it upmate and at the end of the contract im sure ul still be able to get £150-£200 for the mda pro if u wanted to sell it so its a free phone really!

btw tmobile lock there mda pros but they will unlock it for a fee, perhaps in future a free unlock app may be available for this like the xdas/smpv m2000 etc

Just in case anyone else is thinking of going for this -

Looks like the stores are sold out. My local T-Mobile shop couldn't say when they were getting them back in stock.

There's at least a 7 day delay on all orders through the T-Mobile website.

But..

If you go via the telesales route, you'll get it delivered next day

Only draw back I can see. From their T&Cs:

"To ensure a high quality of service for all our customers, they are not to be used for other activities such as (but not limited to): modem access for computers, internet based video/audio streaming services, peer to peer file sharing, internet based video download and internet based telephony. If such use is detected, notice may be given, after which network protection controls may be applied which will result in a reduced speed of transmission.

Yup - I'd seen these.

I guess only to be expected, and most of those aren't a real issue for a portable.

(Shame about the no VOIP though!)

take it u guys don't know bout upgrading it to the web n walk pro I think its called, basically its £10 more per month for unlimited data rather than £7 for unlimited data but it allows u to use it as a modem and voip

I might see if I can sort myself out one of these deals then sell on the new mda pro and keep my qtec 9000

They still officially don't allow VOIP or Instant Messaging even on the pro package. Personally I don't think this should be advertised as 'unlimited' either as they may, obviously at their discretion, enable useage limits if you break their 'fair use policy' of 2GB which is counted as both sent and received data.

There seem to be conflicting reports about this 2GB limit. Some are saying that there is no limit on the non-pro web 'n' walk plan, and that the FUP is purely directed at certain (streaming) activities.

Certainly the T's and C's on the website make no mention of a 2GB limit for the non-pro plan.

I can sort of understand the 'no limit' on the non-pro plan, if you take their T&Cs literally then you are going to be really pushed to get anywhere near 2GB just browsing the web via a phone, which really is all that is allowed.

Hi Peeps,
It's upgrade time & I mentioned the Vario to T-Mob & they suggested that the MDA Graphite with all the goodies was the best out of the 2.. Cant say im keen on a phone without a keypad but i guess im an old guy with old fashioned ways... I see that you peeps are singing the praises of the MDA but i wondered if anyone could shed any light on the Vario

You don't have to use the onscreen keyboard on a Vario.

the Slide out keyboard is an excellent slide out full qwerty keyboard and after a couple fo days practice becomes a piece of cake to use

agreed! go for any proper keyboarded pda, no matter what the layout ul get used to it, the onscreen keyboard is terrible imho, not bad for inputing a few lil bits but texting etc especially while walking would be a pain

Just a word of warning to everyone.

If you go for one of these Web 'n' Walk contracts, make sure they actually put it on your plan!

I just had my first bill, and was surprised to see that the £7.50 wasn't on it, but data charges of £3 were. The charges were for one day.

Just come off the phone with T-Mobile, and indeed the wnw wasn't put on my contract - in less than a week I already had almost £100 worth of data charges!

Naturally they're sorting it all out

a lot of the time its through independent retailers that dont put on the right package on signup, though a few t-mob retailers have also made this error. on your contract it should state if you have web and walk. if it does and you get a bill then contact t-mob who will prob ask for a fax of contract. if it doesnt state the package on the contract then go back to the store, find the salesperson that sold the phone and get them to sort it out!!!!!

I'm wondering about Web n Walk... It says you aren't allowed Peer to Peer software etc. But what about the various Messengers that you install? Surely staying connected to them for a period of time wouls be a constant drain on them..
Has anyone installed it theirs.. & if so, has thee been any reaction from T-Mob?

Just seen the Varios recharge time ... 120 hours... I'll be avoiding that.....
