3G - What are the real benefits?

Hello there

I'm considering these 2 phones:

Nokia N80
LG 'Chocolate'

The Nokia is 3G whereas the LG isn't.

We've all been told that the future of mobile communication will be 3G. Is it so important to get 3G now?

If a phone is 3G you do not have to connect to the 3G network you can select standard GSM network so if you dont like it your not stuck with it.

I swithced my N70 to GSM.

Thanks mate, but in terms of the actual services, what are the benefits 3G has over standard (i.e. 2G)?

Higher speed Data, don't think it will be usefull on Nokia phones, but you will notice the difference on a windows mobile phone, as intead of browsing the internet at 56Kbps you can browse it at 300kbps, but that's only if oyu are using a windows mobile phone, don't see the advantage of 3G on any other platform...

The advantages of 3G are:

- Faster internet access
- Video calls
- A more reliable service during busy periods

I'd strongly disagree with you - Nokia's smartphones are very capable of putting that high speed internet access to great use. The new Nokia web-browser is amazing and it's massive improvement over the current crop of mobile browsers (Internet Explorer/Opera/NetFront).
