N91 Connecting to Network Internet Wirelessly?

Hey

I have a Sony Laptop that has WLAN and bluetooth on it and I want to connect to the internet using my N91 through the LAN connection, ie, using my ADSL internet connection and transmitting it wirelessly to my phone to browse the internet using my phone (I know I made that sound VERY Complicated but hopefully you understand!)

When I use the WLAN connection setting on the N91 it sees a wireless network which I believe is coming from my laptops WLAN parts (as it obviously capable of transmitting as well as receiving wirelessly) however it does not connect or if it does connect nothing happens (to be honest I can't tell if it connects or not as nothing works).

So is there anyway to get my laptop working like a router basically so my N91 can browse through it, and if not is there anyway I can connect it by bluetooth to browse the net? Thanks.

I don't quite understand what you're trying to do here.

Do you have a wired connection from your ADSL modem to your laptop and then want to use the laptop's WiFi to connect the N91 to the internet?

If so, you'll need to bridge the two network connections on your laptop (I think it's quite easy in the Windows Networking Wizard) and hope that the N91 supports "ad hoc" WiFi networks. If you look on the N91's support page on Nokia's website, there's some easy to follow guides on how to set-up WiFi on your phone.

I don't think it's possible to use the Bluetooth connection without some serious hacking.

Alternatively, you could buy an ADSL wireless router and connect your N91 directly to that. It'll cost you £50, but it will make everything a lot easier.

But I have no idea how to do it! If anyone can tell me I would appreciate it! I think its the windows settings need changing!

it is XP Media Centre Edition (it is one of those Sony Dual Core Ones - nice bit of kit!).

If I am not mistaken MCE is basically XP Pro with the MC on top? anyway now you know what it is please let me know how I can do that!

Hi Spinstorm,

if you go into START|CONNECT TO|SHOW ALL CONNECTIONS

you will then see your network connections displayed. Select your wireless connection and you ethernet connection together using CTL while selecting them, right click, and you will see bridging in the floating menu. XP does everything automatically from there!!

Hope this helps

Steve
