How to activesync with a Simpad webpad ?

I am trying to use activesync to connect a simpad to my pc, when i attempt to connect from the pc I get a window searching for available ports eventually saying that USB and COM 1 are available (both of which are connected to the simpad). If i then click "next" it just searches for available ports again and again.

Any suggestions much appreciated as I have never used activesync before

In Activesync go to File > Connection Settings & ensure that "Allow Serial connection or IR to this com port" is checked & that the com port is set to Com1. Also verify that your Com1 port is correctly recognised & configured in Windows Device Manager. Then run Get Connected again.

There are also Activesync settings on the Simpad but they should default to the correct settings for serial sync on hard reset.

Hi, I have just tried your seggestions but sadly no change.

One strange thing i have noticed is if i unplug the USB socket i get a message saying "USB Device not reconised"

For reference the sim pad runs windows CE 3.0

Any other ideas please anyone

I have never had any success with Simpad/USB connectivity under XP.

Just re-read your original post & you seem to be saying that you have both serial & USB connected at the same time? Try serial alone.

Have you used that serial port on the PC for anything else, ie are you sure it works?

Thanks for your response,

I have tried using just the serial on its own without success, Sadly I do not have anything else using serial to test the connection with but if i go into device manager it shows as working - any other ideas on how i can test this anyone ?

There's two things that need to be established.

Firstly, is the PC com port working. Best way I can think of testing is if you can get you hands on an old external modem. Try setting this up on the com port & then running the modem diagnostics from the Control Panel.

Secondly, is the Simpad configured to Activesync via serial? How did you receive the Simpad, was the battery flat or charged? Did you have to go through the screen calibration? This will help determine if Activesync on the Simpad has it's default setting or may have been changed to sync across a network.

Thanks for your input, While I am looking for an old modem I have just remembered my pc at work used to connect to my old palm pda via serial so I know that pc works - I will test the simpad tomorrow on it.

As for how the simpad is set up, things get a little tricky here.

The simpad still had charge in it when it arrived but it is a german model (called TOPwp50) and as such all the menus are in German, I have another thread on AV forums about this as I am trying to change it to english - obviously this makes it difficult to see what settings it has at present

A language change will require a ROM flash with the appropriate image - don't ask me where you get one though! Probably worth a search through the Remotes Forum for info as that's where they're discussed most.

Here's all the Simpad links I have:
