Question Razr V3i Voice Name problems

Hope this isn't a duplicate thread.

I've just replaced my beloved V3 with an updated V3i. Bought the phone sim free from Phones4U in the UK. Excellent phone, love the upgraded camera, memory card and some nice tweaks in the menu. Transferred all my numbers in the phone book using MPT 4.0 and everything seems to have worked fine.

Knowing that MPT doesn't transfer voice name tags, I opened "contacts" and the "edit" option to find that the "Voice Name" option is missing. It should appear between "Store to Phone" and "Speed No" but it's not there!

Naturally the contacts are on the Phone rather than the SIM. I've read the handbook three times. What have I done wrong? Bound to be user error but I would be really grateful for some help.

Thanks

I was reading about this earlier as I had the same thing with my V3x. Motorola have gone a stage further than normal with the voice dialling with their new phones and the voice dialling now works like this...

Say for example you had someone in your phone book as "Michael" and you want to voice dial them.
You don't have to store a voice tag, all you have to do is voice dial "Michael" and it will look through your phone book to see someone entered as "Michael" and dial them!!!

Even better than that, if it finds some names that sound similar then it will ask you which one you want by showing them all on the screen and reading them out to you

For example Dave, Fabe and Jane sound a bit similar so if I say "Dave" then the phone comes up with those 3 names. I can either select one on the screen or literally tell it which one I want

It also has "digit dial" where you can literally tell it a number and it will dial it!!

Great stuff!

Thanks!

I did wonder what the "Voice Dial" setup under "Personalise" in the "Settings" menu was for, now I know.

Interestingly, to get the feature to work properly I think I'm going to have to simplify the way my contacts are stored to help the kit distinguish between entries, but that's not a problem now I know how it works.

And , yes it's very clever...

Thanks again for the quick response.

So how did you get yours to work? I have tried the 'adapt digits' menu, I speak the numbers as requested, I get a very faint recorded message 'did the recording sound right' or something like that, then the phone kicks back out of that menu and back into 'settings' Any idea of what I am doing wrong, would love to get this feature to work.
Cheers,
Phil.
