Free psp or Ipod with contracts
Has anyone taken up a contract with one of these phone shops that offer a PSP or Ipod for free??
I have been looking around and seen these offers and noticed with one of them you dont get the psp til you send in proof of payment of your 2nd or 3rd bill and then it says allow 56 days for delivery so in theory you may not get it til april/may.
Just really want to know if anyone has got one of these free gifts and is it as good a deal as it first appears.
I will probably buy a psp for when I go on holiday but if I could get one for free that would be a bonus..
I am not to bothered about the phones you get aslong as they are free and they can make calls that is good enough for me..
Thanks

check the small prints!
if its free gift on receipt of 1st bill (usually comes in bout 14 days) then it may be cosha, but im a phone dealer and trust none of these, unless its a local shop u can go into and harrass if needs be!

These PSP/Ipod deals arent really free PSP/Ipod deals.
You usually pay for them via the more expensive line rental over the course of the contract year.
i.e for phone X you probably have to pay £25/30 per month line rental with a free PSP/Ipod. The same phone on the same tariff probably can be had where the line rental becomes something like £6.99 for 10 months or 10 months at 99p via cash redemptiion.
Therefore you can easily buy the PSP yourself with your own cash.
I really do not understand why people fall for these fake deals.

fake deals
what i feel the catch is that by the time they get to delivering the psp or ipod, it becomes an outdated model and costs much cheaper than the true value they quote, and also these offers eventually turn to be more expensive than the cashback offers given by many sites. What you can do is, get your cash back amount and then buy the psp or ipod with that money.
try sites like mobilerainbow.co.uk, mobileshop.co.uk, themobileoutlet.co.uk, they provide amazingly competitive deals

as a dealer i can tell u how it works!
1st they get paid commision on the tarrif!
then a bonus if its an 18 month.
then a bonus for any extras, ie txt message bundles etc.
then a further bonus for the handset (this depends on the handsets the suppliers want rid of most)
then theres a further payment if they hit targets (set by suppliers)
these all add together to give you the commision the companies earnt
ie: £400
but then the shop needs to minus off the cost of the handset (which are often not competitive costs)
after this cost is profit.
they can then use this to do whatever, they may try taking a hit on this by giving u an ipod (£100+/-) and a cheap phone (costs em £80) rather than send you out that n70 @ £270.
the other way to think of it is in thory they could of afforded to give u a further cut on cost (cost of gift minus vat and bulk ordering)
most of these deals will be on 3 because they have the most relaxed "clawback" ie, the customer does one pays no bills or just a few nothing happens, if they get too many clawbacks ie 15% theyl loose some bonus but thats rare,so they can risk giving cashback deals etc after a month.
however the other companies esp t mobile and orange are strict on clawback, ie on orange you do one on month 6 theyl go back to dealer take back all commision paid and then cost of handset on top!
thats how it works, how the dealers bend that to make it good to u guys is up to them, however 3 have put stricter rules in place now bout advertising cashbacks etc so things should improve bit more for u guys with the small print etc
