Renewing orange contract queries

Hi all

My orange contract comes to a end in a couple of weeks and i am willing to stay with them if i can upgrade to the nokia n70 . however it says that it would cost me £50 to upgrade , it is free for new customers if you take the £25 a month deal (6 months half price line rental) . my question is , if they are not willing to give me the phone for free as an upgrade , is there anything stopping me ending my contract on the 1st of feb and starting a new contract with orange the next day therefore getting the phone for free ??

I would phone them and tell them that. What deal are you currently on?
I've never paid for an upgrade. Mine is up in about 5 weeks and im hoping to get the 6280 from them. Let us know how you get on

Just off the phone to orange , they said that to upgrade me to the N70 would cost me £200 yeah right !!!! i told them that at the moment new customers get the phone for free , i asked them if icould start a new contract and get the phone for free, they said yes. so i've just cancelled my contract (takes 30 days) and i will sign up for the new contract, 6 months half price (£12.50 for first 6 then £25)so its cheaper than i am on at the mo anyway (£25) and get the phone for free. only prob is that i can't keep my number , not that bothered has i can't remeber it anyway. orange always go on about how well they treat their existing customers ....... yeah right !!!

The trick is to port the number to a PAYG from another provider (or was it to a Virgin tariff?), and then port it back to the new contract later.

had the same problem myself a couple of weeks ago, tried to get the sam d600 was told it would cost me £100 when new members get it free.i was told i could cancel and rejoin and get the phone free but not keep my same number. rejected that option and went to o2 were the phone was free. after appalling treatment by o2 in just over a week i cancelled as i was able to within the first 14 days,by pure fluke my number had ported over to o2, so when i returned to orange (getting the phone free and half price line rental for the first six months and £50 credit to my account as well) they told me that i was able to port my number back as officially i had left orange all be it for seven days.so now i have got the phone i wanted a better deal on my contract and also getting to keep my number.a bit of messing around but got what i wanted in the end.what i find absolutely amazing though is after speaking to the orange employee who helped me sort my new phone out is she said that when existing customers leave and go to say the carphone warehouse or the link and get the phone free but stay with orange all be it with a different number,is orange pay them between £100 to £200 to get that new business, why not just give us the bloody phone for free and save themselves a few bob or even worse loosing us all together.

Been with orange for 12 years now and was also told £100 upgrade, now have my PAC and looking around for a new deal as no way Im prepared to pay that. Spoke with cancellations for some time and even he agreed it was terrible but his hands were tied, very stupid policy IMHO
May go with o2, like the look of the XDA mini S......... we will see
Spooks

they are on commision guys!
and have targets to keep to get that commision!

i was a manager at vodafone retentions and to cut it simple my reps had to avg out giving away £135 per customer in hardware and £160 in discounts and 30% on 18 month deals

so if say mr smith wants n70 @ £260 thats £125 uv gota make up, so the nice granny who phones up next will be forced to take a no hardware deal, u get the idea.

if the person u get thru too is doing good target, or is at start of their commision month ul prob get a good deal.

yes they did mention it was different for different contracts.
Im on the £30 a month 200mins 500texts.
They told me if i went down to the £24 a month plan 100 mins 500 texts that an upgrade would cost me £15.

It would appear that the costs differ depending on who you speak to! Im probably going to go to 02 online just because there reception is better in NI and they are doing the same deal.

Do you like the n70 bigred? It seems quite large to me. I would like to wait for the 6280 if it ever comes out!

yeah i know it is quiet large but from what i've read its a solid handset...... i was looking at either the SE w800i or the w750i but from what i've been reading on here recently there have been a lot of probs with them. it seems from comparing them in the shop that they are only marginally larger than the w800i which is fine with me? anyone out there that owns the N70 care to coment on the pros and cons of the phone?
