any ideas? being asked by a mate, and found a few websites, but wondered if there was a more cost effective way of doing things? Im also a bit sketchy on if these can be done from the imei, or if they need a bit more of a hardware scan on them??

you can do it remotly yourself here but you will need the correct cable and a credit (you can sell the cable on afterwards)

it really is cost effective becuase you can debrand your phone too and when newer phones come out you can use the service to nlock/debrand other SE phones
