K750i joystick

Yes, it appears that the sonyerricson curse of non-functioning joysticks has hit another model.

Over the last few days my joystick has become less and less responsive to the point of p*ssing me off

Now I bought it in September on PAYG from The Link so is their any chance of getting a replacement on the spot or is it a case of having to send it off?

Anyone had the same problem and been forced to return their 750?

I've had a couple of K750i's in my locality (friends, brother etc) and none have had a joystick problem. Only one has come back to me in work with a bad joystick. It's not that common a problem TBH.

There is a known problem with dust getting in the area around the base of the joystick causing lack of responsiveness. Getting as much dust out as possible may help so try stuff like holding using a cotton bud in the space around the joystick, blowing as hard as you can or if its really extreme holding a vacuum cleaner nozzle over the area and turning it on NB. Never tries that last one myself, so at your own risk!

When I say known problem, it seems to be a result of the design so it is not recognised as a problem by SE. However, should be repairable under warranty although it would be a send it away job.
This doesnt happen to all k750i's, but it has happened before. Its worth noting that it doesnt seem to be a permanent thing from what posts on another forum have said.

My K750i had the same problem after 3 months, and Orange replaced it under the warranty. Courier came out and swapped them over. No fuss at all

K750i camera lens cover switch, joystick, sulking..

I'm now on my third K750i, since I originally upgraded in August. The first one was replaced by orange under warranty because the joystick was playing up. (It sounds petty, but it made every operation on the phone annoying difficult..) They just sent out a courier, like for Neil. No problems. (Mind you, I'm on a contract, not Pay'n'go)
Then the second one went batty after only about a week. The switch in the back that recognises that the lens cover is open must have stopped working because it wouldn't let me take pictures.. Again replaced by a courier, only this time I forgot to take the memory card out when he took the old one away, so that cost me £60 quid worth of Sony 512Mb card. (Incidentally, I realised my mistake 30 seconds after the courier had left, but according to Orange there is no way for them to contact the courier company - in otherwords they can't be arsed, so that was that..)

I think the only way to avoid completely the dodgey joystick problem is to go for a clamshell / flip phone that isolates the phone buttons from my pocket fluff.. Knew I should have waited for the Nokia N70..

Um, the N70 isn't either a flip or a clamshell!
Just a regular candybar like the k750i....

Mark me down as another joystick victim. Mine wouldnt go down, which was hell when using T9 in texts or negotiating the menus. It's currently with O2 for repair, partly due to the joystick but mainly due to the earpiece speaker crackling.

I also have 2 friends with the K750i and both of them have the same problem too, as does another friend with the W800i.

Funnily enough, it's the same problem that caused me to sell my T68i many
years ago.

You'd think after so many returns across so many models that SE would redesign the joystick. It's a shame becuase small annoyances like this can really ruin a good phone.

I guess phones arent meant to last long these days anyway

I didn't end up sending mine back as I couldn't do without it whilst it was getting repaired.

However, my joystick is very temperemtal. It will work perfectly for a week than have a really bad day then be fine again. It does get annoying at times but a quick cotton bud and blowing on the joystick [no jokes please ] seems to get it working properly again...

Yeah, I would have just kept mine with the tempremental joystick had it not been for the speaker problem. As you say, giving it a quick blow usually does the trick for a few days.

If you're not shy about opening it up then you can give it a proper good clean that way. I used a T6 and an old credit card to open mine to clear the dust from both the screen and the joystick... it improved things for about a week then it started sticking again... The best thing is O2 seem none the wiser as I've been advised the replacement should be with me by Friday. I'm sure that will suffer the same fate though.

mines gets pretty dirty at my work. first time the joystick didn,t work i gave it a quick blast with an air line. once a week now with that does the trick, never had any probs since an alternative is to use a foot pump
