P990 I - Release date anyone?

I have been hanging on before renewing o2 contract for the prices on the new
SE P990I. Anybody heard when in Quarter one it is likely to be released. Also any ideas of prices.

I work in EBU at it wont be out until April/May time according the device roadmap I've seen.

I've had a go on one, its rubbish- the keys are to small to use

There is a review of the P990 at BengalBoys site.

Its NSFW tho.

http://www.bengalboy.com/modules/new...er=ASC&start=0

also a thread running at esato

http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=105886

Also videos and caps at

http://www.p800.info/index.php?s=143

The phone looks awsome.

I think its too early read these reviews because the firmware is far from being finished and things will improve. However, it gives you an idea about the phone.

interesting comment about the keys. I couldn't wait so boughty a treo 650. Aside from 3G, does the 990 offer much more than the treo?

Yes, it does.

It has a 2MP camera, WiFi, radio, 4 times the RAM and a fully multi-tasking operating system.

But I feel your pain when it comes to waiting for new gadgets to hit the market.

No way they made a big mistake by shrinking the screen that much, I wanted a screen the size of p910s now its just like all the othe rs but a wee bit bigger. For me I wanted a bigger screen but everything else about it looks great

UPDATE: I just chedked out one of the above links and I was to early to go on like that the screen looks great, i guess I just never saw it in perspective like that, great phone i cant but

but by the time it comes out 2mp wont be the shiznit will it?

The screen is physically the same size as on the P910 - slightly shorter but wider at the same time.

We'll probably see a lot of 3MP cameraphones by then, but in PDA terms it will be unbeatable. Every PDA-phone I've seen from the likes of HTC, Palm, etc. takes terrible photos and the P990 looks just as good as the K750i/W800i.

I personally think it looks the D'B's and as I currently own a P910i I can't wait to get this (Just for the Radio and 2mp camera alone !!!), BUT and the big But is that 3rd party DEV's will have their work cut out porting over the apps to this new Symbian O.S,

Actually the HTC Prophet (Magician/Jam/Compact/Mini replacement) has a 2MP cam and is meant to take awsome pictures.

The Jam has a ***** camera :-(

And there's no commercial EDGE network in the UK, so it really doesn't matter unless you need to access data whilst in the US/remote parts of Europe.

Having UMTS is a lot more important.

I just don't understand why SE leave stuff out .If the SE990i is going to be a truly international phone then surely EDGE should be included . And yes, I guess ppl are not happy all the time re. specs in phones therefore competition exists.EDGE is widely used in SE Asia.

And it will probably be included in the Asian/US version....

As for the European version it's a non event.

Well, then why are SE releasing a W810i music phone that uses EDGE technology saying that EDGE ' gives you the speed you need'Surely the W810i is not for sole release in the Asia Pacific region .

No it isn't. But the s710a had edge whilst the s700 didn't. I'd assume the p990 would follow the same suit as it is a way more eagerly anticipated handset that the w810 will ever be and more susceptible to change in the different regions.....

But we won't know for sure till it's on the shelves....

That's marketing talk for you.

The SE P990 has UMTS, which is 3-4 times faster and a lot more common in Europe.

I guess so !

I had the SE 910i until 3 weeks ago and it is a good solid phone.Certainly there are things I miss , now I do not have it .The VGA camera was nothing to write home about though .
Back to EDGE - if you travel between SE Asia , US and the UK a lot - like I do - believe me- you need EDGE, 3G and everything else you can get your hands on in between (!) - to stay connected wherever you are or it is a real pain.

( I had a nightmare upgrading my software with the 910 i.)

I was eagerly anticipating the arrival of the SE990i but I have been lured in by the Nokia N series .

Also 3 mega pixel cameras will be more common in 2006 whereas the SE have just got in the 2 megapixel with the 990i. The SE 990i looks a very good phone with its own pros and cons .We will just have to wait and see. I do wonder when it will be released.

Latest I have heard in late June, although probably August. Phones are generally not released in July as many of the facilities are close during July. M600 is expected first, with P990 later.
