how to activate replacement SIM after phone stolen

Had my phone stolen 2 weeks ago, had it barred and blocked, ordered a replacement sim, and called o2 to unlock it, gave them the serial number on it, it shows the network on the phone but whenever I call it hangs up straight away, ayone got any ideas?, may it's a dead sim, tried it in other phones but no luck, how can you get a dead sim?, also is there anything else you have to do to activate the new sim if replacing a stolen/barred one?...

have you rang your s/p to "activate" the sim card. You normally get your "update" messages and you would also have to give a imei number too .

sounds to me like the handset you have it in is barred
do you get a sequence of 3 beeps?
if so the handset is barred.

if not try takling the sim card out the phone and refitting it as sometimes you get a static build up on the sim :0
