I've been having problems with my Nokia 9500 aknowledging there is a memory card (1GB) in the system so I took a trip to see the Nokia engineer at my local Carphone Warehouse, The conversation got around to my mates 6230i, as I had tested my memory card in his phone previously to see if the memory card was at fault, the memory card did work, The Nokia engineer told me "Nokia don't guarantee any memory card over 512MB to work in 6230i and it quite clearly says in the user manuel not to exceed this, I had a problem with a 1GB card in my 6230i when it was loaded up to max with music, It was only after I deleted 10% did the phone start to behave a little, I'm not sure if this is the same for all phones as far as exceeding 512MB Cards"

It won't matter what make it is, a 1GB card is a 1GB card regardless who makes it, anyway a MMC memory card is a MMC memory card there all the same just a different name so will all do the same thing, if ya get what I'm saying

There's no rules say a Verbatim card will work in one thing but won't in another!

i understand i was thinking maybe there were different standards in quality etc that would determine whether it will work in my 6230i, its horses for courses

Well, if Nokia say don't exceed 512, there's normally a reason. As previous poster said, it did cause problems. I'd just got for two 512s if you want a gig that badly.

Apparently, at least from hoFo and other forums, 1gig+ MMCs can work fine in the 6230i. Problems are generally caused by MMC cards that suck more juice, which the phone cannot supply.

Ludicrous69 - you are slightly incorrect; some MMCs aren't quite as compatible as others. its just a fact that different manufacturers make things ever so slightly different. Maybe its a case of Nokia trying to improve on battery life, and so the 6230i can't supply the current required?

Check out places like E-Buyer; the user comments on 1gig MMCs (MMC Plus at the moment) that say they work fine in the 6230i.

Siemens said the SX1 wasn't designed for anything over a 128meg MMC - I've been running a 512meg for ages; know of people that have been running 1 and 2 gig cards without any issues.

Just received a Kingston MMC+ 1Gb card from Ebuyer. Phone recognised it as 981Mb but would not format it. Formated it in my PC, quarter filled it with approx 250Mb's worth of MP3 and it seems to be working fine.

PS phone 6230i.

PPS Ebuyer a lot cheaper then the price linked to in the first post.

The difference in capacity (1gig versus 981mb) is down to Nokia and Kingston using different ways of calculating capacity (ie. units of 1000 versus 1024). My SX1 reports my 512 meg MMC as 489mb.
