Number Porting Question

I'm out of contract with Vodafone and tried to renew my contract but as an existing customer cant get the online deals.

I want to keep my number but cant port it from vodafone to vodafone. Does anyone know if I can port my number to an old orange pay as you go sim card then port it back to vodafone as a new customer?

Thanks.

Call up CS and explain why you are leaving them... say you can get better deals on other networks etc. and see what they say. Many have had luck in this way with O2 and Orange. It's worth a shot

As said above - I was in the same position - rang up and requested my PAC code (number transfer code) - told vodafone I was off to get a better deal - they matched what I had been offered...

Just note though that vodafone are now putting most people on to 18 month contracts if they upgrade this way...

Contracts seem to be leaning a lot lately to 18 month deals; 3, vodafone and t-mobile in particular. I don't think it's right that T-mobile adds £2/3 each month to your bill just because you dont sign up to the 18months
