02 Contract to VIRGIN payg - possible ??

Hi phone nuts - i'm on a £20 per mumf 02 contract, and i've had enough and want to go over to Virgin PAYG. I'd like to keep my number, but i thought this was only possible when going from one Contract to another Contract, not from a Contract to a PAYG ..Can i still change and keep my number ?

When you buy a Virgin PAYG card, the number is supplied, so would i have to keep that one - ??
