connecting phone to PC

ive got a panasonic X70 handset, a usb data cable and a basic spec pc.

the PC is recognising the cable, the driver is installed (came on a disk with the cable) and the port configured and apparantly working ok.

installed panasonic's own "handset manager" software all as instructions.

cable into phone and start software and it just sits there saying "trying to connect to handset".

am i missing something obvious ????

I connect using handset manager via infra red with no problems.

Have you tried swittching the phone off then back on?

yeah.....tried everything.

the pc hasnt got infrared or bluetooth compatability otherwise i'd be sorted. got to rely on old fashioned WIRES for god's sake !!!

the only thing i can think of is that the specific usb port i'm using was originally attached to the printer (only 2 ports on PC), and theres a conflict with the drivers, but i've reckoned to have checked all that. i'm seriously considering buying a new 4 port board and installing that....can pick em up for about £6.

I don't have this software, but the ones i use you have to tell the software which port you are connecting through.
