Question Where are Contacts stored on a SPV C500?

I've just upgraded my phone for the first time in 4 years.....

I've now got an SPV C500 - nice bit of kit but the software's a bit buggy.

What I'm trying to work out is where the contacts are stored.
I suspect it's a database file of some kind but I can't find it.
Anyone know?

The last time I upgraded my phone, I got a device from a company called Mobile Fun which connects to the USB port and allows you to put your sim card into it and extract everything you want from it onto your PC. I then uploaded it to my new sim card. It may be worth looking for something similar ?

It's not to do with transferring contacts to/from phones or SIMs - the phone runs on MS Windows Mobile and has a mini USB port so it's possible to browse all folders on the phone and SD card on the PC.

I'm just interested to know which is the actual database file that the contacts are stored in.

I've been wondering this too but I can't find it anywhere! Great phone though isn't it! Have you upgraded to the latest firmware Brogan?

It's certainly an improvement on my last phone!
Haven't worked out how to make a call yet though...

I only got it last week so I would have epected the firmware to be fairly current.
How do I check the current version and where can I get updates from?

Start>Settings>About Latest Operator Firmware is 4.1.1.4
It should be current given that you only bought it last week.
Latest is available from: http://web.orange.co.uk/assets/sw/RU...K_v4.1.1.4.exe
Buy a 256MB or larger mini-SD card and put some movies (or simpsons episodes like me!) on there and you'll be even happier with it!

Thanks for that.
Mine's showing:
Version 4.21.1088 (Build 14217)
Radio Version 1337.0.32_0.03.18
ROM Update Versions:
Operator 4.1.1.4

So I guess it's current then.

The link goes direct to the file for download.
Is there a page on the Orange site where I can check the latest version, etc?
I had a look on there but couldn't find a link to firmware or software upgrades.

I plan to get a card, probably a 512MB but I'm going to wait a while until the prices come down.
These Mini SD cards are at a premium as they're so new.

http://web.orange.co.uk/yourphone/spvc500/ will mention "improved features" etc. and link to a file when a new version is released... I'll be keeping an eye out anyway.

Mini SD is a bit expensive right now but I couldn't resist: 256MB around £20 from ebuyer and 512MB £55 from http://www.orcalogic.co.uk/asp/prodt...8174&ft=d&st=1

Ah, OK, thanks for that.
I already have a shortcut to that page but thought there might have been a central site for downloads.
I'll keep a regular eye out too.

£20 for 256MB isn't too bad.
My average MP3 files are about 8MB so I could get about 30 files on the card.
I might treat myself to one for Xmas

My only gripe so far is not being able to use MP3 as ring tones.
It means I have to re-rip all of the tracks I want to use in WMA format.
I suppose that's Microsofts way of pushing its own format...

Apparently this utility will allow you to view the contacts database: http://www.msmobiles.com/catalog/i.php/354.html

It looks like MS has hidden the database.

If you want tons of advice about the C500, or any other MS mobile based smartphone, head over to:

smartphone.modaco.com

There is a separate forum for the C500.
