Carphone wearhouse?

Hey all,

I have been with o2 for about 6 years on a payg SIM and now I am looking to upgrade my phone/tarrif.

I have found the phone i want and tarrif I want, however when I tried to order it (contract) with o2 on their website, they said that a debit card, and drivers license wasn't enough ID for this application, and that I would need ANOTHER credit card to prove I was me......I didn't fail the credit check, but the Identification haha, which to me is hilarious. The woman told me that although they had used my debit card to check the address, they also required another one.....

Annoyed, but undeterred I thought, what if I buy THROUGH someone? Carphone wearhouse have the phone/tarrif on o2, but will they just send the app straight to o2, who will come back asking for multiple credit cards, or do CPW do their own checks? How are they? or is that it, i will need to go and get another credit card to prove that this is my address? if CPW ask me for another card, couldn't I just go in store with my drivers license, and this card? because chip and pin can checkyour id, it isn't hard.

thanks.

I suspect this stems from you not being on the electoral roll. In which case you may well have this problem when ordering online. Although they might accept proof which is faxed to them. Personally, I would go into an O2 or Carphone Warehouse store and take as much proof of ID and address as possible. Take passport, driving licence, credit card, recent utility bill, bank statement etc.

I have voted in local and national elections :P so I am guessing that I am.

I guess if they come back asking for more, I could ask if it would be okay to go into the store with a bank statement, letters addressed to me, drivers license & debit card?

The woman said that the order can't go through because of Fraud, so it isn't anything to do with the credit check, which I presumably passed.

No idea why they can't take a debit card, and drivers license as ID though, perhaps if i go into a store and do it there?

It might be worthwhile getting hold of your credit report.
I can't remember the full details of this, but there is a scheme where the report can be flagged (by a financial instituion or by the person themselves) as being susceptible to fraud and extra ID checks should be done. It doesn't mean that you are suspected of fraud but that there is a reason why you may be a victim of fraud.
Hopefully, someone with a less hazy memory can fill in the gaps.
Whatever the reason, I would do the application in-store in person.

Hm I might look at that.

Perhaps if I go into a store, with some letters, bank statements, debit card and drivers license it will go through.

I have re-ordered on carphone wearhouses site, and I will see what happens, if it fails, I will call o2 and ask if taking it in store would be ok.

Sounds to me like Chip and Pin proofs they're asking for.

This is the most secure way of taking ur identity, and due to fraud etc, this is why they use it.
