need some help with keeping number

right ive had my N95 for 3 years now and ive decided on the n900 for my new phone, ive found a deal thats really good but its on the same network as im on now, t mobile. now i need to keep my number(had it over 10 years) and the phone is not eligable for an upgrade.

can i change my number to a payg sim for a very short period(few days) then request my pac number from them and then port back over to the new t mobile contract as this seems to be the only way i can keep my number!!

i dont know the ins and outs of payg so not sure if you can request a PAC code the day after your numbers ported over?

surely they must get annoyed that people do this?

thanks

You are correct that each network has various conditions that needs to be met before you can port your number out from a pay as you go SIM. There may be a minimum length of time or a minimum top-up. eg. On O2 you would have to top-up £10.
However, are you sure you are not eligible for an upgrade, after 3 years with no new phone you should be.

From what I know you can port your number onto say O2 PAYG. This may take around 3-5 days. I believe once you have your new sim, you can ask for a PAC code instantly. Therefore you may have to wait another 3-5 days roughly and transfer your original number back onto T-Mobile.

Porting a number takes 48 hours. To activate an O2 Pay as You Go SIM you need to top up a minimum of £10.
As I advised earlier each network has a different minimum commitment so the OP will need to do some research.

The other question I have is if you are not eligible for an upgrade why would they allow a port out without penalty?

Will they not allow a mid contract upgrade?
