Question PAC code and changing numbers.....

I have a PAYGO sim on orange and a CONTRACT sim on o2, i want to swap the numbers around. So im guessing i need to get the PAC code from both network providers?

Anyone give me any info on this as ive never done it before. Best/quickest way to go about doing this? best step to take first? how long does it take?

Thanks

Using a PAC will cancel the contract and close the PAYG account. You cannot use a PAC to swap two numbers over.

Are you planing on moving both numbers to a PAYG deal? Or were you planning on keeping a contract?

You could get two new SIM's, one for each network. Then transfer the O2 Contract to the new Orange PAYG. And the current Orange PAYG to the new O2 PAYG.

Networks are giving away free SIM's on their websites so it wont even cosgt anything.

Otherwise, it can't be done. May seem stupid, but it's fact.

I want my orange paygo on my o2 contract and my o2 contract number on my paygo. can i not do that?

or what if i do this - get a pac code for my contract number, stick it on another o2 paygo sim and get o2 to give me any random number temp for my contract.

Then swap both numbers currently on paygo then when the number is on o2 paygo get the pac code and get it put onto my o2 contract??

Using a PAC code cancels the account. This is the same on all networks. You cannot swap numbers like you want to do.

So getting my pac code from my contract is impossible before my contract ends because its a sign of cancelling my contract?

Almost, USING a PAC to port a number out closes the account and ends the contract. Indeed, as far as I know none of the providers will give you the code without paying off the remaining months.

I dont beleive this, i paid a large amount of money for a very good easy to remember number on the paygo simcard. Just called o2 they say exactly what you said basically its impossible to change the number myself unless i cancel the contract. They can however give me a computer generated number. This is totally daft. The number on my contract right now is a good number too and i paid alot for that aswel, does this mean o2 now own this number and i will never get it back? if so surely thats a good enough reason to be able to cancel my contract?

No of course it doesn't mean that. As you've already been told above, you can change each number onto another SIM, you just cant change each of the two you have onto the opposite.

1) You could change the Orange PAYG onto another network PAYG, so you keep the number.
2) You can then change the O2 contract onto Orange PAYG, so you keep the number.
3) You can then change the number on the SIM you ported to in step 1 onto Orange PAYG.

o2 at the CPW said im not allowed to use my own numbers in anyway. They insist i have to use there computer generated number if i want to change my number. Otherwise i have to cancel my contract then sign up a new contract with the pac code to the number i want to port over.

That may be CarPhoneWarehouses policy, it may be that specific salespersons lack of knowledge. But you can port a number to a new network SIM. That's the whole point of the PAC.

Instead of going through a third party, why don't you talk directly to the network? You'll be told the same thing about a direct swap, as it's simply not possible, but there are other options as has been said.

Ok i will do, ive also emailed o2 at CPW with my concern and have mentioned i have 3 months left on my contract and i will cancel it just for the pure reason that i cannot use my own number. So if they want to lose a customer over this then so be it i will go elsewhere.

I should of been more clear basically my o2 contract is more important, so i want this unique number i have sitting on a orange paygo sim on my o2 contract. And if i can get the o2 contract number onto a paygo sim then thats a bonus as its a good number and is worth a little bit itself.

If you've only three months left, you could drop to the lowest tariff and pay it off, asking for your PAC at the same time. Then phone Orange and say you want to take that PAC from O2 and use it with one of their PAYG SIMs. You could also do this with any other network, it doesn't have to be Orange, the important thing is it's moving from the O2 contract to another network.

That keeps that number, cancels your O2 contract and allows you to start again. But you still have both numbers.

Then phone Orange and ask for the PAC for your favourite number on the current Orange PAYG SIM. Give this to O2 and start a new contract, with this PAC so you get the number.

This achieves what you want, in that you end up with both numbers saved and an O2 contract with your favourite number on it.

I can't personally think of a better way.

Thanks, that does sound the only way.

The only downside is cancelling my contract will cost me 3 months line rental. Then taking a new contract out would put me at square 1. As in when i started my contract 3 years ago i was £40 a month after the years ive been up for renewal ive haggled them and im currently paying £15 a month down from the original £40 with extra add ons FREE O2 TO O2 FREE INTERNET..ect. I will be losing out so much just for the sake of using my own number. Too costly just to have a unique number.

If you ask to go through to their nuisance calls bureau then they can give you a change of number (you still won't be able to port a number in or swap numbers over).
