android or windows?

I am looking for a new touch screen phone.

To be honest, with regards to the operating systems i.e. Android+Windows,
i'm a bit of a newb. so don't know a great deal about them.

I am basically after something which has:-

good battery life, good browsing capabilities,
ease of you for texting/making calls/storing contacts etc.
and a fairly large capapcity for memory cards

I am just wondering which users would recommend..?

Re: android or windows?

Can't add anything I'm afraid given I'm not experienced in either, but would love to know the pro's and con's of either side by side. Much more choice with Mobiles then when I last upgraded!

Re: android or windows?

Bought a T-Mobile Pulse phone 2 or 3 weeks ago after several WM5/WM6 phones over the years and there's no comparison - Android is just so slick and works like WM phones should have been doing for years. Possibly not quite as slick as an iPhone but pleasantly surprising. I do think they have an issue with perceived geekiness (which I like) and the increasing variety of handset screen size and keyboards etc (which can make some apps annoying) but very impressed with it so far.

Re: android or windows?

Windows gets a lot of stick, unfairly in my opinion.
I've not tried android yet, but I have had a few WM phones, and never had the problems that some speak of... I have a Win mob 6.1 device, orbit 2 AKA polaris, and it's great, never crashes, never needs restart, multitasks like a nutter, and takes 16 gig cards without issue.

No, Win mobile isn't perfect, it's not really made for use with a finger, but I've got used to it, and manage happily without a stylus. It does literally everything I want in a mobile device. I have tom tom running whilst it plays mp3's and retrieves email, whilst BT'd up to my car kit....
Not advocating WM over android, like I said, I haven't tried it, but don't let some people bias put you off.
AFAIC, the only real fault with Win Mob is it's finger unfriendlyness.

Android is petty easy to use and a good os. Its great for email sync and also calendar sync via google.

In my view its sort of the future, this time next year its going to be massive.

wimo is decent enough, its main issue is its not finger friendly, the menu screens nees a stylus really, the htc phones are probably the best in this regards as they have "touch flow" htc's own skin. as a plus xda developers (a forum) has loads of new versions of os to install, pretty much any new version fo all phones, they also deal with android on htc android phones.

with regards to browsers android is goos with its owm, wimo has a few decent ones, iris is like the browser on android (and iphone) but has no pinch zoom but renders most sites very well, I use skyfire which browses remote and just views the sites as a streamed images, think how google maps works, it means sites render very well (they use firefox 2) and its very fast to load pages, it only works on wimo phones with lower res screens or did when i installed it.

wimo is tried and tested, and it has its "issues" well touted, android is interesting and still developing so assuming the networks update your phone ota (or you have a htc and you do it yourself) then you will get all the new toys google cooks up.

Those who say WinMo is not finger friendly, don't forget WM6.5 has just been released which addresses this very problem in a big way.

The fact most WM handsets are using a resistive screen doesn't help, but it is significantly better.

I'd still suggest Android though....
