New Phone dilemma!

In the market for a new phone due to the end of an 18 month contract with orange. I am now met with the problem thats there are a number of really good handsets to choose from:

Iphone 3gS
Palm Pre
HTC HD2
HTC Hero
Blackberry Bold 9700
Nokia N900
Nokia e72

Not only is each handset difficult to choose between, each one uses a completely different operating system, it is no longer a case of choosing a handset.

My main uses are calls, sms, access to hotmail account and probably facebook. So which handset provides the best overall experience?

I would wait and have a look at the HTC HD2. That's the phone I am seriously looking at upgrading to when it's launched around the 6th November.

The N900 isn't going to be out for a while from what I've read, and a killer missing feature is no MMS.

Re: New Phone dilemma!

My only concern with the hd2 is the size of it, yes it is slim but is it too big to be a practical phone and slip into my trouser pocket?

Although i do admit it does look very impressive.

Re: New Phone dilemma!

I should add the Acer Liquid and Motorola Droid to your list as well. And the Samsung i8910 HD. And the Blackberry Storm 2.

Actually you might also want to take a step back and think about whether you really want a top-end "smartphone" at all. For the sort of things you're talking about - calls, sms, and web-browsing - a top-end device like this is really over-specified. Top-of-the-line devices are great if you want to be install a wide-range of new applications which extend the phone's abilities; but if all you want to do with it is stuff that it does straight out of the box, then a decent "feature phone" may be better value - something like the Samsung Jet, for example.
