Mobile Outlook

Hi all,

Forgive a probably newbie question but I'd appreciate any help you can give me.

I'm self employed and I get a lot of my work via email. I use Outlook on my laptop. I have, up til now, got email on my Nokia E51 when out and about to read/reply to then when I get home I fire up the lappy - I get the same emails again - annoying but not too much of a problem.

I have now been looking into getting a windows mobile phone with Outlook so I can get the emails on the mobile read/reply on Outlook and sync it with the lappy when I get back. I'm sure it's possible but I've no idea how! I've had no joy in mobile providers (I've tried t-mobile and vodafone) telling me how it's done.

I've had a hunt on the internet and Microsoft Exchange comes up time and again but it seems to be for bigger businesses rather than a sole trader. I don't need to sync calendars with employees - I haven't got any!!

So my question is - can I do on a mobile phone what I do with laptop i.e. download emails to Outlook directly??

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks

Carol

Re: Mobile Outlook

I Dont think you can sync with outlook express.

However you can leave messages on the server to be downloaded when you get home so you'll receive the message on both devices How to Set Outlook Express To Leave Email Messages On The Server (with pictures) - wikiHow

Re: Mobile Outlook

As long as your email provider uses pop3 protocol (they most likely will) it will work - no problem.

Outlook and Windows mobile

Hi there,
From reading your post I can understand why you are considering a Windows mobile phone as a solution to your email problem.
If you are wanting to consolidate over the air then realistically the only way to do it would be to have an exchange server/Blackberry Enterprise server and use either a Blackberry or Windows mobile phone.
Another solution is to go with a Windows mobile handset and synchronize (via cable) with your PC.

Windows mobile works in conjunction with a program called Activesync.
This will be able to synchronize between your Outlook account and your phone. The main feature of Activesync is to consolidate between read and unread messages and is quite easy to set up.

Best Wishes

Ben

You're other option is to ditch Outlook, set up a gmail account, set it up so your email address forwards to your gmail (you can set gmail to send from this address too) and use gmail as your exchange server. Most mobile platforms will allow you to sync OTA with gmail via IMAP, so your messages will appear read on both your mobile device and on gmails web interface. Simples

Thanks for your replies

I decided in the end to go for hosted exchange, a windows mobile and a domain email addy. My current email provider does not offer forwarding to gmail and I'm still recluctant to let go of the Outlook email client! I know I really should but sometimes you just can't teach an old dog new tricks(!)

Many thanks for your advice though

Carol
