Cancelling Orange contract with 8 months to go??

Recently moved house and I have no coverage with Orange at the new address [apart from a spot down the end of the garden]. I am under contract until April 10th 2010 but obviously being with Orange is no good for me right now, especially as I use the phone for business as well.

I know there was an opportunity to cancel Orange contracts recently due to extra charges they were making outside allowable minutes, but I was too late due to a holiday and they've rescinded the price rise so that "out" has now been removed.

I know the easiest way out is to put the monthly contract down to the lowest possible rate [and pay for the remainder of the contract] but having spoken to someone on the customer service desk briefly, it seems that they can only bump it down one level, to Dolphin 20.

I didn't stop to chat for long having got extremely frustrated by the automated "enter character X and X from your password" which obviously works if you have a normal 1=ABC keypad and DON'T have a blackberry ... the representative even asked for the same information! so what's the point in the automated part??? GRrrrr

The point of this rant is to ask for any advice on the best way to get out of this contract. to be forewarned is to be forearmed and I would greatly appreciate any help before I ring back and get fobbed off continuously.

As a side note, I also pay the bill for someone else on my account and will cancel [or threaten to] this number too if anyone thinks it'll make any difference?

As far as I can read it, you have two options...

1) Pay off the remaining months of the contract and leave asap.
2) Wait until the end of the contract

You've signed a contract for a set amount of time and Orange are in their rights to insist that you honour it, or at least milk you for as much as they can get before you leave.

On another note, there is a new toy out called "fem-to-cell". I know very little about this, but it is worth considering. I'm fairly sure that Vodafone offer it, so I guess Orange will have a simiar product?

As far as I can see those are the only 2 options at the moment. I'm positive the fact I have no cell coverage will make no difference to them [plus without looking at my contract I can guess there's something in there about it] and to be honest don't expect it to.

I'm full aware this is not something I can kick up a fuss about as the coverage issue is neither here nor there but I was fishing really and I just wondered if anyone had any special tricks up their sleaves with regards to cancelling early and avoiding costs?

Thanks for the info on the "booster", when I'm ready to ring them again I'll ask if they have a similar product
