"Keep Your Old Number" - What Happens to my Old Simcard?

Hi guys

I am currently on a contract that I'm about to pass onto my mum, and I'll get a new contract.

Will I be able to keep my current number when I get my new contract? What will happen the contract I currently have, which is being passed on to my mum? Will it get assigned another number?

Cheers

Jez

No, when you port a number out the contract ends. (You will have to pay a termination charge if you haven't satisfied the minimum term). So you can't pass the contract on (even if the network would let you). However, you are free to pass the handset on.

Thanks mate. I'll just have to let my mum have my old number and hope she doesn't get too many rude texts from friends that haven't updated their contact list!!

The contract is currently in her name anyway (I'm under 18) so it won't be a problem giving it to her.

Oh, come to think of it... can she have 2 mobile contracts both under her name?

That's a decision the network would have to make based on her credit score. If she gets a second contract (with same provider) there is no reason you can't swap SIM cards.

You can have more than one contract to your name easy.

I have, two Orange and one Three contract at the moment until one of my Orange contracts ends in less than a month!

Do you know whether SIM-only 30-day rolling contracts are 18+? Edit: OK they are, have to get mum to do it... cheers guys
