Anyone seen the current offer from Dixons, PC World group?
They are offering an HP iPaq 1940 and TomTom Nav 2 for £499.00.
I know you also need to buy an SD card but does anyone think this offer can be beaten?
Whats the explanation behind the offer-are the items being superceded or something?
I'm a little suspicious because IMHO Dixon's never have decent offers without strings

Can anyone tell me if the hardware offered is good and relabile?

1940 is a low end HP iPaq.

New iPaqs are fitted with wifi as standard.

The ad was in a glossy flyer included with The Sun.
I went into PC world tonight and the very helpful shop assisitant gave me a brief demo.
For once I actually became convinced he knew what he was talking about and he didn't mention extended warranties once
With reference to the WiFi comment - I'm not bothered by the lack of WiFi but the 940 does have bluetooth enabled so I can use my mobile phone as a modem.
Personally I'm just looking for a decent portable GPS system for my car(s) as I have to travel to obscure addresses as part of my job.
I already own a Sony Clie and find that adequate for my PDA needs.
I was just hoping some might have some comments whether this was agood deal.
Looking on dedicated GPS websites most products seem to start at £800 and go on up to £1200

Two weeks ago I think.

A PPC by Medion, GPS software and reciever and 2 x 256 SSD memory cards.

I read a forum post (can't remember where) that a guy bought one set it up in the carpark (no PC required) and drove home by it. Apparently the GPS s/w covered all of Europe too.

For a unit to be left in the car, it was a really good deal.

www.totalpda.co.uk is cheaper deal than this.

Totalpda look very competative.
After looking into it all a bit more I think I'll go for the iPaq 2210 and TomTom 2 bluetooth package.
This seems more than adequate for my needs.

Thats not a bad deal Hornydragon, but, I prefer a bluetooth kit.
I want minimum fuss with cablies in my motor.

I think Aldi deal is finished i have a friend who buys a lot of the offer stuff, has bought a PC, TV and this GPS from them, she had to que up for one and they all sold, i dont think aldi publish details online or sell over the net, you would need to get to your local store regularly. The medion would have been a rebadged something, no idea what. I think my friend wants me to set it up for her daughter who really struggles with directions and HAS to have a passenger to navigate for her the first few times she drives anywhere!

Just a quick note on the Total PDA deals, they look tempting, but exclude VAT, and once you figure in that and shipping they're not as good as they first appear.

By the time you add the delivery and then the VAT, you're only saving about £5 against the Dixons price, and for that I'd rather go into town and buy it over the counter, than order it online and wait a few days, as much as I hate to say it, Dixon's do have a really good deal on this one.

e-bay has thrown some cheap cards my way too.


As an aside

The 1940 comes with Windows Mobile 2003, and has Jawbreaker installed, the most addictive game I've played in a while.
