T-Mobile misleading mobile broadband tariffs!

As a mobile broadband customer who's contract is coming to an end in the coming months, I was keen to see what T-Mobile had to offer these days that might tempt me in signing up for another year or 2. A quick glance on their website now shows that all mobile broadband tariffs now include unlimited date, subject to fair use policy. Its a shame they dont have the FUP on the same page, as it took a while navigating the website to actually find it!

I eventually phoned T-Mobile and whilst on the phone, I found the policy anyway. It turns out that unlimited is only 3GB, which they used to advertise before so it was completely unnecessary to change the wording. I spoke with CS who also admitted it is misleading and said that they changed the wording to 'unlimited' as part of a promotion! Is it just me, or does anyone else fail to see the promotion in this??

I honestly dont know how phone companies get away with this and I feel sorry for poor average Joe who's caught up with a months worth of eastenders on iplayer only to find that he's went over his 'unlimited' usage allowance and been hit with a huge bill.

Dare say I wont be renewing my contract when it ends!

Rant over

Average Joe who doesn't read the small print is exactly the type of customer they want.... and unfortunately you will probably find one company is as bad as the other for this type of practice. Gone are the days where free actually means free etc...

T-Mobile never charge customers for exceeding the Fair Usage Policy. This is where it differs from all 5 of the other mobile broadband providers as they ALL charge when you exceed your allowance.

So what exactly do they do when you exceed your allowance?

Re: T-Mobile misleading mobile broadband tariffs!

Ive been a t-mobile customer for many years and been on web and walk for a fair few of them. Unless its changed, this is how it works:

A FUP is not a cap on your allowance. It says you can use as much as you like (say 20gig!) in one month but not exceed that next month (or two months?). They will write to you telling you you exceeded your 3gb and dont do it again.

I'm expecting one this month as i've downloaded well over 10gig playing with my Live Mesh settings

Of couse, this may have all changed recently and I could get a mammoth bill in a week or two

If your on a mobile broadband tariff (usb modem / datacard / laptop) then you will receive a text when you hit 80% of your allowance, when you hit 100% of your allowance your speed will be restricted between 4pm-12pm till then end of the calendar month. Your normal speed will resume after that.

yeah, tell ya what, i'll start in 3rd gear and *maybe* you might have a chance for the first 20 metres Must say, the most fun i have EVER had on a bike was actually a little 250 2stroke ..... such a laugh it was just insane. It also had a cool name which fooled a lot of people "Yamaha R1-Z"

(actually, I sold the RSV as I started commuting 100mile a day and it couldn't handle it without falling to bits each day - and it was only 18 months old! Now running a ZXR636.... sadly)

Anyway, the as Sy1441 says, the tarrifs can difer slightly so you may want to just double check your tarrif on the following link:
