Orange contract question
With the news coming out that Orange are upping their tarriff from 5p to 15p for calls to some numbers this means that Orange customers can get out of their contract, would this be a way of getting a better contract?
I have a Nokia 5800 with Orange and the monthly deal I have isn't exactly the best, but this is because the deal I got was the "Comes With Music" thing and is apparently a contract with Nokia and not Orange. Would I still be able to get out of my contract. Also, because it's done with Nokia and not Orange would I have to send the phone back?
The phone's tied to Orange, but I'd have no problem with getting a new contract and using the same phone, or even getting the phone unlocked if it came to that. I was just wondering if I'd
a) be able to cancel my contract
and
b) be able to keep the phone
thanks in advance

Re: Orange contract question
Yes, you can get out. I read about this half an hour ago, and am now being disconnected on monday (could have been yesterday). 5 minute phone call. If the cs rep you get won't do it, hang up and call again. Luckily for me i got a very helpful guy first time. Orange are surrendering very easily on this one. Oh, and yes you can keep your phone. don't let them tell you different as your phone does not form part of your contract.
PS: did you get the text from them about this? It helps if you have, but isn't essential.

Re: Orange contract question
Yeah, I got the text about it. I just wasn't sure if I was able to cancel my contract because it's the "Comes with Music" from Nokia one.
I'd probably just phone up a couple of days later and get a better contract, it's so rubbish because the contract's actually with Nokia and not Orange so I wasn't given the proper Orange deals.

Re: Orange contract question
Don't wait until the new charges are in place, as you only have a month from being informed of the increases to act on it. Otherwise you are deemed to have accepted the new prices.

Re: Orange contract question
Do you think the threat of canceling might be enough to convince them give me a free HTC Hero if I was prepared to take on another 18 month contract?
As it stands my contract ends in January so I would have to wait til October to upgrade. If not I might just cancel and get it on T-Mo.
I don't make many calls... just texts really, but I do like having a nice handset!
Cheers

I had a look at the G2 today, and decided to go with the iphone 3Gs. Its a fantastic bit of kit! You will definately need some protection for it as i can see it scratching very easily.

I did it yesterday and the guy on the other end was brilliant. He cancelled it right away and said the phone was mine to do what I wanted with it.
I signed back with Orange pretty much straight away, I was only using this as a way to get a better deal. The contract I originally had was a special thing so was a fixed price, I changed from £20 for 200 mins and 300 texts to £15 for 100 mins and unlimited texts, and since I text loads this is much better.
My only problem now is I have no phone for the weekend. I tried using an old PAYG sim in my phone and it didn't work. Do Orange lock their phones to contract sims or something?
My concern now is my new contract sim won't work in my phone!

The one thing that puts me off the iphone is the over inflated price and the not so good deals , if it was priced the same as the HTC there would be no heistation id choose the iphone.

Re: Orange contract question
Yeah, i suppose it depends on how much you normally spend on a contract. I am used to spending £35 per month so it wasn't too bad having to spend 87 quid to get the iphone.

Managed it on my personal contract no problem, but not on my buinsess package. Do the changes affect buisness customers on the venture package?

i agree, being an existing customer means you can get the latest phones for free, depends on what band your on too, but most of the time threaten to cancel and you get what you want and a bit more. my current phone the omnia hd would be around £100 if i was to start afresh with the same tariff.
im tempted to go for an iphone 3gs after selling my current new handset so i would still have a fair amount of £ left over from the sale.
Thing is, is it worth it on the long run? Yes if you want a different phone, but other than that ?

I've been after an answer to this myself. Ive been stung for £5000 cashback by my dealer and want to cancel.
I'm going down 3 routes
1---I'm suing him (he cant defend that he doesnt owe it me I have proof)
2---Cancelling contract because he made a cockup with paperwork (So Orang claw back all his commision)
3---Just cancel with Orange because they changed their T&C's
I'm hopeing for 1 and 2 but will settle for 3

Re: Orange contract question
To be honest with buisness department I had a huge issue:
1. Didnt know about the changes in terms but DID say my call charges go up in Sept, said I have right to cancel according to terms.
2. Speak to supervisor and says I wont be affected as I dont overuse minutes but told him if I do it wil so want to cancel.
3. Speaks to supervisor and gets told I can only cancel in Sept, to which I said is nonsense as I have 30 days from the moment im notified.
4. Speaks to supervisor and says I have to wait for text or letter, to which I read the other terms.
5. Speak to supervisor and I get told it is for only domestic plans, apparantly my charges arent going up. To which I argue why he mentioned they were going up in the 1st place. I accused his supervisor of fobbing me off to which she came on the phone and was very rude.
Will try again later once somebody can clarify if buisness venture packages are affected or not.

Re: Orange contract question
I hav'nt managed to get any concrete evidence regarding the business contracts yet.
All I seem to get is "Orange are changing the prices on ALL their contracts"
My situation is slightly differant as to be honest I really want to find a way of cancelling due to my dealer making a major cockup with the paperwork so he gets his commision clawed back.
However after I've been to court I'll take the T&S way out.

Can someone be so kind as to post what these changes will actually be?
I got a text message the other day but deleted it in error.

From 14 September we'll be changing the cost of mobile internet browsing
and some calls outside of the allowance included in your plan.
Mobile internet browsing down to just 58.7p a day
=================================================
From 23 September our mobile browsing charges are changing. Instead of
paying £2.94 per MB up to a maximum of £1.47 per day, you will be
charged a flat rate of 58.7p per day, subect to a 25MB fair use policy.
If you have a mobile internet browsing bundle this will also be the
daily rate applied if you go over your allowance. [1]
Calls in the UK
===============
From 14 September if you exceed your inclusive minutes, the minimum call
charge will be 14.7p for calls made to mobiles, fixed lines and your
Answer Phone. If you regularly use more than your inclusive minutes we
have alternative call plans that could benefit you. [2]

Standard charge at the O2 shop for a 16GB. Personally i couldn't justify the extra hundred or so on the 32GB.

Re: Orange contract question
This is so frustrating for me as I have only just started with my Orange pay monthly plan! I'm currently paying £19.57 p/month with my Samsung i8910HD and included I have 800mins, unlimited texts and Magic Numbers... Is it worth me getting out?! I mean, I don't even know if I could. I really have no clue what this is all about and whether it will effect me or not! I really could do with some guidance on the matter! Thanks in advance
[ EDIT] Just seen this only applies to those contracts taken out before May 31st 2009, so seems I'm safe! Phew

Re: Orange contract question
Wow! This is EXACTLY the sort of info I was after - I want to switch to O2 so I can get an iPhone, but I still have 12 months left on my 18 month contract! I will give Orange a call shortly, let you guys know how I get on.
Thanks everyone!

Re: Orange contract question
Hang on, wait a sec... I'm doing a bit more research before I call Orange. Is it true that this only affects contracts started on or after 31st May 2009? If so, I'm not eligible to cancel my contract, as my charges won't be going up

Re: Orange contract question
Absolutely no joy now, and I'm starting to get really miffed. I think I've made maybe five calls now, and each one has been met with a blank refusal to help.
That article at "BitterWallet" (link several posts above) was really helpful, by the way.
The main sticking point seems to be that I haven't received a text yet. Not a one of the operators will even answer my question as to whether these changes to charges will affect my tariff or not - they are all refusing to speak to me about it. That is, apart from the first guy I spoke to, who confirmed it would, then denied this counted as "direct communication" (read the BitterWallet article for more info on that). Orange have since then refused to cancel my contract, as I can't prove the extra charges apply to me. I am almost certain they will, judging by experiences other people have had (and if that first guy was right), but Orange are just flat out ignoring the contract, even quoted verbatim.
I have reached an impasse - they won't even tell me by when I should receive the text message.
I am tempted to write to Ofcom.

Try quoting article 4.3 of your contract about the 0845 numbers going up. My mate and his missis just did it no probs.

I had tried that before without any joy - however, I spoke to some poor beleagured lass this time out. She tried to argue it, but as soon as I started quoting stuff at her, she just gave up and agreed to send out the PAC code.

Nice one! What are the options with the code can you go back on to orange with the same number or pay as you go?
