Alternatives to the iPhone

Well, im a current 2g iphone user - hve been since day one and never bothered to upgrade to the 3g version as i use wi-fi for my net surfing more than i would anything else.

However, for a few months now ive been itching to upgrade - like many others i held off on the upgrade untill yesterday - thinking that there may be a new all singing - all dancing iphone for me to upgrade too.

I have to say that im left feeling a little dissapointed at whats been offered - and im not going to pay those prices for the new iphone on sheer principle. Im happy to tie into a contract, but im not going to be ripped off just for the fact that i want an iphone.

so.... now im firmly in no mans land, Ive been in iphone world for so long that ive been blinded to everything else.

so my question - are there any phones out there that will directly compete with the iphone and give me a simlar experience...? If it has a better than 3mp camera then great - but the main thing is that it has Wi-fi and 3g (just incase i do decide to use out and about).

It has to be touch screen, and a great media machine - and its got to have the potential to give a decent gaming experience.

Has anyone got any thoughts on googles android OS? what phones are due out that use it? anything decent?

How about Windows mobile - is that still as slow, cubersome and problematic as it used to be? or has windows mobile 6 and upwards changed things?

One phone that ive seen that does look quite good (from pics and videos) is the Toshiba TG01.... does anyone know when its out?

im completley open to suggestions here guys

Re: Alternatives to the iPhone

HTC Magic

Read the thread in the HTC forum to get a better feel of it. It matches the iPhone on every aspect in terms of the phone, with only the Apple ecosystem bettering it. But the Android Marketplace is growing quickly and has a large number of apps in it already.

I wont go over the technical comparisons again, as they have been covered in numerous 'iPhone vs...' threads, so have a search through this forum for more reading and opinions.
