Changes in 3 contracts allow early cancelation without charges!!!!

Yesterday I was able to cancel my contract with 3 6 months priot to expiry.

They have recently changed terms and conditions regarding the "3 like home" - which as from the 30th of June will no longer be a free service.

I recieved a text from 3 stating why the changes had been made and also that I am able to cancel my contract due to the changes.

Its a pain in the arse and took me over an hour (after being offered a good will gesture of £20) but in the end i managed to get out and only had to give 30 days notice.

If you have been abroad before and activated the roaming function , then you should be ok. I would reccomend informing them you have a trip planned in JULY and that the changes in contract will cause an increase in your billing. Which you are not willing to accept.

Def worth the hours phonecall if like me you have had problems with 3 and want out.

You can read a little more about it here 3 Like Home - 3 squirm as customers cancel contracts | BitterWallet

Cheers

Were you able to take your number with you? Definitely worth considering.

Re: Changes in 3 contracts allow early cancelation without charges!!!!

yep you can take your number with you, just ask for a PAC code. then give that to your new provider and you'll be able to keep the number.

roaming abroad basically means you can go to places like Italy, Australia, etc and ring numbers in the UK and it comes out of your already inclusive minutes and doesnt cost anything.

You will certainly be able to get out now (regardless of when your upgrade is due) - they will most likely offer you a £20 good will gesture to stay.

So you think if i ring and say i want to cancel my contract because i realise you have changed your roaming abroad option and it will now cost me etc that i could cancel for sure?

Re: Changes in 3 contracts allow early cancelation without charges!!!!

You need to tell them you recieved a text with a link which you followed and it said this at the bottom

" Finally because of the 3 Like Home change, it's only fair that we point out your right to end your contract with us, without paying an early cancellation fee. However we very much hope it won't come to that because we still believe we offer great value rates and great coverage. "

You will be on the phone for about an hour, but just tell them you've booked a trip to australia in JULY and this change will severly effect your bill as you was gonna use 3 like home to keep in contact with friends and family back in the UK.

they will be a bit arsey and in denile at first but just be adimant and read up on the ins and outs in my initial link first. It will give you all the information you need. Just be firm, and tell them legally you have rights to cancel.

theres more info here.

Re: Changes in 3 contracts allow early cancelation without charges!!!!

I very much doubt it, coz when you upgrade I think you will sign a new contract, and they will remove this clause from the terms and conditions.

have a look around first see what deals you can get elsewhere for any phone that you are looking for.

3 might be able to offer good rates and if they offer you a £20 good will gesture then its win win either way.

How long have you been with them ?

I know people who havnt used it, who've managed to cancel, its beside the point in my opinion , its written into the contract (not as an addition, but as part of the service)

its up to you though

Re: Changes in 3 contracts allow early cancelation without charges!!!!

This sounds like an easy way out for the problems I have been having: Need Some Legal Advise Regarding A New Mobile Phone Contract Please

Is there any chance you could post the link?

I received the text and the link, but on it, it does not say " Finally because of the 3 Like Home change, it's only fair that we point out your right to end your contract with us, without paying an early cancellation fee. However we very much hope it won't come to that because we still believe we offer great value rates and great coverage. "

Re: Changes in 3 contracts allow early cancelation without charges!!!!

Im having trouble locating the link, it is knocking about somewhere on the net, but I cant remember where I've seen it,

to be honest I think if you quote that line you would be ok. Thats what I did.

just tell them you clicked a link on your phone and it took you to that page and explained that at the end.

they might deny it but be firm. They will give in eventually. Legally they have to.

Re: Changes in 3 contracts allow early cancelation without charges!!!!

Theres a lad on the hotukdeals , who rung without even having a text and has managed to cancel.

Another chap managed to reduce his bill from £30 down to £15 for life.

So its def worth calling them in my opinion.

I managed to cancel and get a PAC this morning, still have 10 months left of my 18 month contract. I got the text about the changes an hour after cancelling! I've never actually used the 3 Like Home service either, but thats irrelevant as I was planning to on my fictional July month long holiday

Be prepared to argue your case...you will need too. But in the end, they have no choice if you took your contract our pre April 2009. It took 2 calls for me to succeed, one on friday, one today. But its worth it.

LOL.

See I had more ammunition due to my previous problems, that may be the reason I got it so easily.

Anyway, get to cancellations, and be sure to say you were going to Italy, Austrailia or one of their 3 Like Home destinations AFTER June 30th, say halfway through July.

Say you recieved the text and that it said you were in your right to cancel due to their changes.

They will then offer you incentives £10/£20 to stay, say no thanks, that will no way cover the cost of calling home I would have made use of with 3 Like Home.

If they decide to say no, keep repeating your self, be sure to get angry and raise your voice (but remember its their stupid policies and not their employees fault so dont get personal). If they still say no, ask to speak to a supervisor or manager.

Thats pretty much all I had to say. And dont forget to ask for your PAC code if you want to transfer your number.

Any questions, feel free to ask.

Got 3 contracts cancelled with 3 this morning.
Was on the phone for a good hour but refused to back down.
Even had the manager call me up twice after the original call
to try and change my mind.PAC codes came through very quickly.

Stick with it, it's your right to cancel.
