time for me to start mgs4 . . . Couple of questions

looking really forward to playing this but couple of questions/tips wanted .

Roughly how long would it take to complete?

Whats the best way to play, sneaky taking everything slow or is blasting your way through levels the best. Hopefully people who have tried both styles can say what they thought was best.

I have beat Metal Gear 4 numerous times both with shooting/sneaking tactics. Although sneaking is the more boring route as it were you do have more success in beating the game. I have found running out and shooting (only done it like that when I had the bandana) is difficult and 9/10 results in your death.

Give both methods a try and see what works for you.

Re: time for me to start mgs4 . . . Couple of questions

Should I buy and complete MGS 1, 2 and 3 before I play this? As I have bought it but kinda didn't complete the other games.

I can't remember what game it was on but I got stuck on a MGS game years ago when I had to climb down this ladder and it led to like the bottom of a big pole/stand what kept it in the out of the water.
You had to try and snipe these hidden bombs in the ocean inbetween each pillar(or whatever they are called) But you had to be fast because you had to shoot them before the person you're with goes past them.

Could never pass that part.

Not really, don't see the point unless you really want to follow the story. I've never played MGS 1, 2 or 3, come to think of it, the only MGS game I've ever played other than this was a 2D version on an early console which I can't even remember NES/SNES???

The only problem I have is when the cut scenes come on and all these names are being thrown about such as Ninja Grey Fox?, Emma?, Big Daddy? or Ocelot? I have absolutely no idea who they are lol.

I've only recently bought my PS3, I did get one at launch but it was sold on due to the lack of games at the time. MGS4 however is possibly the best game I have ever played, Killzone is gonna have to be pretty special to keep me off this.

Re: time for me to start mgs4 . . . Couple of questions

It's worth reading the plots of the previous MGS games on Wikipedia
I did that and now I practically fully understand the game, even though I've never played an MGS game before

Re: time for me to start mgs4 . . . Couple of questions

I've played and completed all the playstation versions of Metal Gear Solid, and imho the story makes little sense anyway!

Even in MGS1 they were referring back to the arcade Metal Gear games too. You'll pick up the general idea of it.

Sunny's suggestion of just wiki'ing the plots of the previous games is also a good one.

And stealth is the best way to do it - you could try to run and gun but you'll die lots. It's all about sneaking.

Your referring to Metal Gear Solid 2, on the 2nd part of the game whilst playing as Raiden. Great game but then they all are!

I'd read all the stories of the previous games first (Its quite a lot to take in - especially the names of characters) but I think it will be worth it, because there are a lot of references to the past. I'd see if you like this game then consider getting the older ones after. The order won't really matter much as some previous games are sequels and some are prequels, so the stoyline isn't straight forward.

My mind still boggles thinking about the story!
