How do you play MGS4: Sneaky, sneaky or shooty shooty

I am currently loving MGS4, and thought MGS2 (PS2) and MSG (PS1) were the mutts nutts... as a rule, if I recall, I played those game from very much a SAS sneak, hide, kill (quietly) and stuff the body in a locker type game

With MGS4 I seem to playing totally different at some points, i.e. making friends with the locals and going with a very American (shock and awe) attitude, shoot any thing that moves... Things is when I play it this way progress seems slower than sneaking, which makes sense - but I can not resist the gun battles.

SPOILER...

The bit were you have to get in the house to find the lab, basically spent ages shooting people, but did seem to get any where, so eventually sneaked into the house behind them which was much easier - but not as fun

As a rule how do you guys play, do your normally sneak and avoid confrontation or do you get in there and do some shootin? I have feeling as I get further into the game, sneaking will become more important.

I play sneaky sneaky. Its more fun, but second play through I'll go Rambo because there'll be lots of weapons I wouldn't have played with.

Play MGS4 covert like, play GTA4 reckless like

I like shock and awe myself...

stinger missiles, TOW missiles, numerous handguns submachine, assault rifles, LMG's, grenades, sniper rifles, mines of all descriptions, shotguns, the list goes on.....

generally i sneak but if a part starts to **** me off then its time to pull out the big guns and storm through like rambo...!!

Depends what Emblem I am going for so it's a mix of both
I do prefer the sneaky beaky no kills no alerts method though

No kills!?! I kill everyone in my way, even if they get put to spleep I tend to finish them off with the knife or other weapon, then drag them into a bush, as I get worried they will get me later on

Really enjoying the game at the moment and to think I almost didn't bother (GTA was taking up my time, but a broken PS3 meant I lost all my saves), I am now at the third act, some of the cut scenes are a bit too long, but they are so well made and look stunning I can put up with them.

Yup no kills, Remember this is a sneaking mission

A tranq to the head and they drop like a stone and on anything but The Boss Extreme they stay dropped for more than long enough.

I know, but I am not always the quietest! I like to get involved in those gun battles

Yeah I have had some epic shootouts when doing certain emblem runs
I love sitting atop the Vista mansion with my VSS and popping PMC heads left right and centre :D
It can be annoying when snake stands up to puke and some PMC hears him and sets the alert off though

Bit of both from me too. I try to sneak and avoid trouble most of the time but when I turn out to be crap at that I'll end up shooting my way out. Some of the battles though just scream "join in" though...mortar here I come again.

I play a mixture of sneaking and take guys out with a sniper rifle works well for me, and headshots are fun to do

I played rambo straight up... Sneaking on this seems harder than the other MGS's other than MGS3.

Working my way through the game, I haven't a clue how far through I am - just beat "Screaming Raven" - then gone through ALL those scenes

I have been doing a lot more sneaking recently, enjoying sniper rifle and darts - not thrown one grenade, petrol bomb or similar yet. Have lots of weapons I have not yet used...

Sneak at all times (apart from bosses), tranquilize everyone, kill no one.

The way MGS should be played.

bit of both, i started off all quiet and tranqs left right and centre but as soon as i got my hands on the fun guns and learnt that ammo isnt really an issue thanks to drebin...i let loose with all out war.
i might to it again when ive completed it sneaky though.
oh yeah and has anyone got any tips on how to beat that screaming wolf thing cause its nnoying the hell out of me!?!

The way I did it: Climb up the tower, you can easily kill the foot soldiers coming after you as they come up ther stairs. Then you have to wait for wolfy to open up and shoot her with the sniper rifle. It took me ages but kept plugging away and got there eventually.

Or you can hide under the car directly infront of you and the foot soldiers won't have a clue where you are unless you shuffle too much. Then you can pick the soldiers off one by one with the moisin nagant and also take out the wolf.

I was having alot of trouble with this one until I used the aforementioned tactic.

MGS is a strange game, I find some of the Boss levels very hard and take me several tries, then I play Screaming Wolf and do it on my first go and find it dead easy

I used a combo of the above two...

Start by crawling under the car, use you night vision and pick of all the soldiers, one-by-one. You can then move about to get he rest. To avoid Screaming Wolf spotting you, make sure the wind is not blowing your smell towards the wolf, i.e. use radar and wind direction to keep on the right side, continue to pop off the soldiers. When done go up the tower, use you night site to find Wolfie when spotted she won't see you, take aim and fire, fire again when hatch is open, keep doing this (i used rifle and rockets), by moving round the tower other locations to find Wolf, rember to keep yourself the right side of the wind to avoid attacks

... It was by far the easiest Boss for me, no a ctritism mind! As my attempts on other boss levels were shocking

I think with Boss levels, which I genrally don't like, is you either get it, or you don't

Since doing this level I haven't played the game for months, must get back in to it as its FAB.
