The Complete Saga

So who else is re-doing the complete series.

Loved MGS4 in fact loved them all, anyway lately i started replaying a little it of MGS2 and a bit of 1 so thought sod it.

Literally ive now starting the complete story, just reached "The End" on MGS3, god i dont remember it being this good last time. Must be cause you know more facts now from MGS4 etc. Its like when you watch phantom menace, return of the sith etc and then watch a new hope its like OMG, the connections, story its immense.

So i need to buy MGS Portable Ops, never did get that and then its MGS1 classic style on ps1 or Twin Snakes on the cube, decisions decisions

Re: The Complete Saga

Currently playing MGS1 again on my PSP (PS1 emulation) and absolutely loving it . Still an superb game today and it's amazing the quality of the visuals they got out of the PS1. May well play MGS2 again after that.

Re: The Complete Saga

lol

Im finding it quite borderline easy/normal at the moment. Was a bit getting used to the MGS3 camera compared to MGS4, i believe they put the 3d rotate one in MGS3 Subsistence. I got the original, remember pre ordering that one

it just oozzes little moments, like when you come out the jungle and enter the tunnel that leads to the top of the mountain, as you start climbing, its a pretty big climb the snake eater song comes on. Just classy bits like that are enough for me .

Cas did you buy that off the store for the psp?

Nope, it's a rip of my discs using Clone CD and then I used Popstation to covert them to run on the PSP. It doesn't look that great on my 40" screen and just suits the PSP better IMO. It also means I can play it any time and not just when the TV is free.

I looked before MGS4s release, and all the prices I could find were thoroughly indecent Had to replay Snake Eater which I already owned

I played MGS2 and probably about half of MGS3 (ran out of time) before MGS4 released, as a refresher going into the new game

Re: The Complete Saga

I managed to get through MGS and MGS2 before MGS4 release, but MGS3 wouldn't play on my crappy old PS2 :P

Great to play through an their entirety, but to soak up everything will take ages :P

saw it for £199 pre-owned on play.com, i kid you not....(thats not a typo!)

i wish konami would release it as a big boxset for the Playstation (as a big middle finger to these people selling them for huge prices!) with all the best versions of MGS, either that or get the remakes in on the MGS4 engine

Indeed, seem some priced like that recently. Crazy prices, I wasn't aware that there were even shortages and expected to pickit up for under a tenner these day. They need to press some more I feel.

A complete box set on the PS3 (including a port of twin snakes) would be great. A remake using the MGS4 engibe would be amazing, but it would be way too much work I feel.

Re: The Complete Saga

Right as i said i need to get MGS PO, i know i want PO not PO Plus.

But are there different versions of the normal game. I looked on ebay as game, tesco etc dont ahve it yet im seeing atleast 2 different game covers.

Which is the right one or are they just different ones for different regions?

I never had snake eater, and after completing MGS4, I wanted to play it.

Damn you Sony for not having PS2 compatibility on my 40GB!

I've been told Snake Eater isn't even playable on my 60gb PS3 with BC, does anyone else know if this is correct? Been told it locks up on the cutscenes.

I heard this also. I think it was something to do with the fact the PS3 didn't have the emotion engine, which MGS3 uses heavily.

To be honest, if a game is no longer in production and being sold as new then i'd just download the rom and run it on an emulator. I'm completely against piracy, but if a game is no longer being made then the only place you can get it is by buying it 2nd hand (at a silly price), then I see nothing wrong with downloading the rom/iso. Fortunately I have the game (well my brother does) but if he didn't then i'd just download it.

yeah i agree, one way or another these games should be available to everyone. a timed release of MGS1 onto PSN with MGS4 release seems like a no brainer! Read an article on this recently, and apparently some companies (most notably capcom) encourage ROMS, which is great - i would hate to think games that have come out in my lifetime could become 'extinct' as it were.

did you say you were playing on the PSP? how that going? think thatll be the route i go down if i can get hold of it, any major problems to report

It's going pretty well. The sound messes up a bit in some of the codec conversations but there's subtitles so it's OK. You can map either L1, R1 or L2, R2 ro the analogue stick so I have the R & L buttons bringing up item and weapon selection and left analogue to bring up quick item select and right analogue to bring up quick weapon select.

Looks really good on the PSP screen as well.

When i say i'm not getting on with it it's a bit of an understatement to be fair I absolutely hate the camera so i'm unlikely to play any more for a fair while... If i do though i will be sure to post back here to let you know.

Yes, good point! There may be an assign controller thing within the emulation options but i'm not 100% on that though. If there isn't i'm stuffed!

When i say i'm not getting on with it it's a bit of an understatement to be fair I absolutely hate the camera so i'm unlikely to play any more for a fair while... If i do though i will be sure to post back here to let you know.

I agreed when i first started my replay compared to MGS4 camera i knew it was going to be tough. I have snake eater too though after a wee while it sort of become natural again like when i first played it.

Absolutely loving it, all the funny quirky bits i played first time all coming back now The fact the camera is not 3d makes it more sneaky for me and in places more real as you have to go 1st person to see things.

Im just at the bit when you plant the C3 (nearly put c4 then ) on the fuel dumps around the shagohod.

Keep at it its well worth it!

Re: The Complete Saga

I'm going back to the start. I bought Twin Snakes off Ebay for the Gamecube which I'm playing on the Wii. I've borrowed MGS2 for the PS2 and still need to find Subsistence although selling Twin Snakes should fund Subsistence.

I knew the camera would be hard work to get used to but I'm about half way through now and I'm coping. It seems strange knowing that theres a full 3D game engine there that can be seen when using the first person view that isn't being used.
