cant get online??

hi just got this game and installed it to hard drive and waited for it for 8 minutes.
then on the main screen i selected metal gear online and it just takes me back to the xmb ??? why ????

edit.. this is really annoying me now.
i play online all the time cod4,gta4,beijing, and others. but why when i selct metal gear online does it dump me back to the playstation cross media bar screen with no explanation?
i just recieved it today, i got it off ebay and is region 2. anyone know whats going on?

I have the same problem, click on MGS online and it just boots me back to the XMB. I think it's meant to load up your internet browser and goto the Konami registration page but doesn't.

Have you modified the software on your PS3 at all or have any unusual options enabled for your PS3's network?

At what point exactly do you get sent back to the XMB? is it straight after you click onto MGO or at the part where it 'adjusts the ports'?

it goes to a black screen then i see the loading circle spinning thingy, then im back at the xmb. i havnt changed anything with regards to ports.i dont even know how to do this. i have tried some other games (cod4,guitarhero,gta4,beijing) online and they all work fine. do i have to register to konami id? i did this and registered like it says in the manual and have game id aswell.
it did work once and went to a screen that said metal gear online but my son starting crying and i had to turn off my ps3 so dont know if it would have gone into a lobby after that.
i even sent an email to the guy who sold it to me and he said it worked fine on his ps3. there are no scratches on the disk. i updated today to the most recent version (2.41 i think?)
i dont know , i suppose ill just try again tommorow. any further advice would be appreciated thankyou rik.

Once i click MGS online it boots to the XMB and stays there, not tried it since the latest firmware was released (2.41) but will try at the weekend. Not changed any settings, can get online fine with Unreal Tournament.

I dont think it's anything to do with the Konami ID - the first screen to show when loading MGO is a splashscreen similar to the original MGS ("Press Start Button" included).

I think the page that would send you to Konami's website would be a few screens later.

It's a strange issue.

Seems there are a few people who are getting this problem.

Apparently repeatedly tapping the PS button right before you get kicked back to the XMB can sometimes work.

Something that I think may be worth a try, backup your saves, remove all game data and try re-installing.

It may come down to you needing a new disc.

Also, do you have the MGO beta data still on your PS3 (assuming you tried out the beta)?

If so, make sure that's gone, as it could affect it.

Not much else I can think of, other than what's already been mentioned.

cheers guys, i tried today and it worked, did my character went online and loved it. ill try again later to make sure it works again. so weird that it didnt work the other times. if not my friend has this game and i will try his copy of the game to see if it makes a difference. rik

Did you do anything different?

Is it maybe to do with the latest PS3 firmware?

hi, since i went online on thursday and updated to the latest metal gear online update it has worked fine. so maybe just a weird 2.41 update or sumin, i dont know all i know is its working fine now.
