Help - I don't get parts of this game..

Hello,

As title - I don't understand how I am meant to be playing parts of this game - in Act 1 or 2 for example, when the PMC and militias are fighting each other, am I meant to be avoiding them both, helping one, or what?he PMC always seem to go for me, but the militias sometimes do and sometimes don't. What am I missing - can't help but feel I don' understand a basic gameplay element and it's bugging me a bit. I have played and enjoyed all theprevious MGS games, but the 2 opposing forces elemnt in this one has kind of thrown me. If anyone can break down how it works I would be very grateful. Thanks.

As far as the story goes,i think stealth is the idea.As few alerts as possible and still get your objectives done.Although what makes this game so great is the option to go in all guns blazing and have the same effect.

You can play it how you like really. IIRC On my first play I killed a few PMC and Milita and they both went for me. Help the Milita and they will pretty much ingnore you and even help out with some of the firefights. Or you can ignore both parties and sneak stealthly through while they fight each other.

The PMC will always go for you as the Nanomachines mark you out as an enemy.

Any idea why the Militia go for me sometimes, but not others? It just seems a bit broken - do the colored squares next to the soldier details / health have anything to do with it?

Re: Help - I don't get parts of this game..

You can be sneaky and stealth your way past both opposing forces.

If you don't want the Militia to shoot you and you want some action then you have to help them against the PMC's and don't shoot any Militia. You can tell if they are friendly when their affiliation above their heads is blue when you have your Solid Eye turned on, it is red when they are hostile but it soon turns blue when you shoot a PMC. You can also hand over spare ration packs to gain favour, a little heart icon appears above their heads.

Have a read of the manual, works wonders

They will both go for you at the start, unless you actively help the Militia, then they will recognise you as on their side and leave you alone.....or even ask for help.

Re: Help - I don't get parts of this game..

One more little thing is, in the first Act when you come across a militia soldier and he spots you, keep still and let him check you out. He'll then just shrug his shoulders (or words to that effect) and move on to fight the PMCs.
So if you get the synonymous '!' above the head from a militia soldier don't worry, as long as you don't move at all he won't hurt you.
This doesn't work if you've ever killed a militia member upto that point.

REALLY , do people read instructions anymore. It clearly says in the intructions about the Militia Loyalty System and how it works.

Re: Help - I don't get parts of this game..

I started playing last night. I was really struggling but there was no way I would read the damn instructions.

The best games start you off gently and build you in to it. MGS4 does this to some extent but not enough. It explains the eye patch thingy, the MKII, the gun dealer blokey... it could have easily explained that if you fought PMC and didn't kill malitia, they wouldnt go for you.

If I wanted to read a book I'd go to the library I would rather spend my gaming time rolling about in a trash can making Snake throw up!

I think its good to find things out for yourself, rather than be spoon-fed every last little thing about the game.

Re: Help - I don't get parts of this game..

To an extent, i agree. Which is why I dont bother reading the boring manuals.

However... as stated above. 'The malitia wont go after you if you have not killed a malitia soldier up to that point'. The big problem there is if you, like me, find out about that AFTER you killed a malitia soldier - you're stuffed.

Well, you're not, you just need to sneaky sneaky a bit more :D

Re: Help - I don't get parts of this game..

Yeah, been doing that.

I have to admit though, when starting level 2, I had no idea who was "good" and who was bad? The costume I picked up seemed to match netither side.

Trial and error got me going though.

That said, I still find I am ploughing through the maps, rather than gently sneaking through - which is a shame.

Not true.

You can play it any way you like, I've finished it twice without ever being seen.
