Quite a predictable review.
Not really accurate though, 'you have to hold down both trigger buttons and triangle to fire' - ???
The AI is dumb, granted, if you play on easy!

No not at all, he just does the same thing with every big game release.

Good the first couple of times but now has just become very predictable unfortunately.

Re: Zero Punctuation MGS4 Review

If he kissed the arse of every game then I'd understand why you'd get bored.

Personally I like his cynical, hate-everything approach. It's like a nega-review that adds humour to the mix so it isn't a depressing presentation on flaws. You can't knock him for being predictable when he's simply doing what he does best. By that logic, every single review website out there is predictable because ultimately it's the same formula for every game.

If anything, you've just gotten used to him and know what to expect. You could say that everything will get predictable eventually. It's not necessarily a bad thing.

Some good points made there.

He's definatley a funny guy for sure and i probably have just got used to his glass half empty style.

I'll still keep watching his reviews thats for sure, i just tend to take them with a pinch of salt (like all reviews i suppose).

The only opinion we can ever really trust is our own at the end of the day.

Of course

Not everyone is going to like his style, and that's fair enough

Re: Zero Punctuation MGS4 Review

I'm normally a massive fan of Yahtzee, but he lost me on the "Both shoulder buttons and triangle to shoot" thing, then didn't really get me back... I thought it was a bit too much "Cutscenes are bad, mmkay?" and not enough actual review for my liking... But then, I'm a self-admitted MGS fanboy :P

Anyone else tempted by the "I'm an assassin... (ssshhh)" T shirt though?

Re: Zero Punctuation MGS4 Review

I must say that I do enjoy reading the ZP reviews. That said, he does struggle with this one a bit, due to the fact that there's not that much to really have a go at.

The whole "hold both shoulder buttons and triangle" thing is just plain wrong though. I also felt that this was one of the least "clunky" 3rd person games i've played so that criticism didn't really stand up for me either. I guess the story is a bit mad, but it's all great fun really and isn't that hard to follow.

His reviews naturally work better when the game has some obvious flaws that he can lay into, but I still found this one an amusing watch.

On the story front if you bought this game because of the hype having not played any of the previous games do you not consider your experience of the story will be a little "overcomplicated" and perhaps even silly?

The above issue is the only reason why I have problems with the game getting 10's in reviews.

I have no problem with the story personally and actually found it easy enough to follow. I also have no problem with the game getting a 10 myself and feel that it deserves that score many times over.

Re: Zero Punctuation MGS4 Review

it seems he is trying to use words and looking them up in the dicitonary to appear 'intelligent' but doesn't really know how to pronounce them. example:

'solilo-quay'?!?! Either my English Lit teacher was bonkers or i'm getting old

it should be promounced 'solio-qwee', and the spelling is of course 'soliloquy'

same with his hard 'g' pronunciation of 'aspergers' which should be a soft 'g' sound...although this may be allowed. I have some kids with the disorder in my classes and i've never heard anyone say it with a hard 'g'. So my assumption is this guy may initially appear to be witty but in this day and age, anyone can scramble together a load of old crap and appear intelligent, even if they don't know what they are talking about.

Yea but we're not talking about politicians here are we? Regards to the game, not everyone is going to like it and every 'bad' reviewer would love to gain exposure criticising a game that is universally regarded as a masterpiece! Such a cheapshot but unfortunately it happens so frequently these days. Like a game between reviewers, who can buck the trend first just for the sake of it.

I think the game does deserve a 10 but it appears any criticism of the game is met with accusations instead of people being willing to accept a simple fact that the game as some negatives but not enough to reduce the overall score. I know you'd rate a game a 10 only if it deserved it as such but for some people the story will be an issue so as I was trying to make out (not very well I admit) in my previous post, it should be mentioned in any review but in a lot it is mysteriously missing. When you consider how magazines were banned from mentioning certain items in their reviews under threat of legal action prior to release then its just a annoyance I have when people try to censor reviews after release too.

Off topic and all that, but Asperger's is definitely pronounced with the hard 'G', although it's often said 'Ass-per-jers'. Correctly, it is 'Ass-pair-grz'.
However, for maximum hilarity, next time you're in an SEN review or such like, it's always fun to refer asparagus....

Getting knarked off at a zp review is exactly what he wants you to do, look at the brawl one and subsequent mailbag showdown.

Of course he's wrong on most of the things he posts, and he's an arrogant tool - but it makes for hilarious viewing!
