Question about difficulty

I only ever briefly dabbled into MGS2 and was wondering how difficult this game in for a newb to MGS.

I'm not a hardcore gamer but something about this game really appeals to me. I am a bit worried about the difficulty of the bosses as I don't really want to spend money on the game just to get majorly stuck.

Which other games would you equate the boss difficulty to ?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Question about difficulty

They're not difficult in the normal sense of things (aside from the end boss) but some of them require you to think about HOW to kill them, some are easy with night vision, some are easy with a super powerful sniper rifle and others require you to listen to what they say or see what they do and counter-act that. I woundln't say they're hard but they each have a knack to kill them.

Re: Question about difficulty

Is there much of an increase in difficulty as you move through the difficulty levels?

Do you start with the stealth cameo of very easy?

Re: Question about difficulty

Yeah it does get a little harder !
My main problem was the controls. I've played every MGS but cos i hadn't played in so long i had to really read the manual to get the controls down!

Re: Question about difficulty

I bit the bullet and got it today. Only played a bit of the first act but I'm liking it so far. At least there are a number of difficulty settings for us noobs .

I do find the controls a bit fiddly but I'm sure I'll get the hang of them soon.

Re: Question about difficulty

It's worth spending at least a few minutes in the virtual environment to get a feel for the controls. I spent about 30mins doing the same moves over and over so I knew how to do what.

Re: Question about difficulty

I found the controls at first quite hard to get used to. I played act one until the end and then restarted it, as I just fumbled through it the first time. After a while of playing the control seems to become second nature, at least it did for me. You just have to stick with it and it comes to you after a while.

Re: Question about difficulty

I found on the easiest setting the guards seem to patrol a lot less - on the harder difficulties they wander around but on easy they just stand there with their back to you - primed for a bit of strangulation...

Definitely. They can also hear much better and see much further. For instance, during act 1 near the beginning, you can crawl through a hole in the wall and on the other side a soldier gets shot. Its just before you meet MK.II. Anyway, on easy or normal, he just gets shot but on hard and extreme, two guards patrol afterwards. The bosses aren't too hard crying wolf is easy, you can sit under the truck and shoot from there with the grenade launcher in total safety. It takes a lot longer though but at least you're completely safe and you get no alerts They certainly take some thought when tackling them.

Re: Question about difficulty

I find the controls a real pain, got it today and after the first play I'm very unimpressed, its just too damned hard to figure out the controls.
Its the first time I've played a Metal Gear since the one with Raiden in and good God I remember why I didn't play that through again now.

Re: Question about difficulty

As an unskilled gamer , who is left handed to boot , I found the game occasionally annoying on the first level , but I would urge anyone to stick with this excellent game as it just gets better and better , and although this is an obvious statement the longer you play the easier the controls become .

Re: Question about difficulty

Don't feel bad about it - I've completed it once and some of the controls still catch me out - mainly the CQC stuff as the shoulder buttons have a different effect depending how hard you press.

I must agree, the virtual range is very handy for practising CQC moves, gauging the range required to an enemy as I found the close up combat the most difficult to master. The controls can seem a little finicky at first, but it all soon becomes second nature.
