Welcome to Casa Zepplin :)

15/11/09 - this is my old setup - I've moved & got more toys since, it's all here

17/04/09 - Updates second post page 2 - PJ, Quads & Sofa

Original post starts below

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Hi folks

After looking at all the awesome setups on here I thought I’d post my little corner of the world
All pics are clickable for a larger image.

Here’s the lounge as it is at the moment:

Over the next few weeks I plan to build this -

Using this as the base of the unit and this or something similar for the skyline background, which will go opposite my new red sofa -

The 5.1 system will be around the sofa and unit, I'll leave the B&W's where they are for a seperate stereo system. I was planning to start building the unit this weekend but the flippin unit I'm gonna base it around is out of stock in red. Grr. I'll be picking up two of them, one to use horizontally for the main AV rack and one to put where the telly is now to put my decks on.

Hope you like it - I'll be starting a thread on the DIY forum as soon as the units I want are in stock!

Kit list:

AV system:
Samsung LE37A656A
Pioneer 696 1080i upscaler
Sky+ with one feed
Marantz SR5400
Eltax monitor 3's, monitor 3 centre, bipolar micro rears & crap eltax stargate sub
PC with wireless keyboard & mouse (great with sky and PIP!)

Stereo system:
B&W DM602s3's
Arcam A65+
Cambridge Audio D300

Upstairs (at the mo)
Gemini PS540i mixer
2 Citronic direct drive decks
2 Numark Axis 9's
Old (but good!) JVC mini system with mission m71's (I think)

Have you tried filling the JD bottles with various amounts of liquid to see if it alters the sound?

Cheers guys

Didn't even think about mass loading the centre speaker stand! And I'm not on a water meter so it'll be a free upgrade - my favourite kind of upgrade!

Edit - just filled them all with water, cor the change in bass response is AMAZING, lol

Re: Welcome to Casa Zepplin :)

Looks like itll be good Zep! How were you planning on doing the skyline behind the TV? I had my skyline done onto wallpaper by PHOTO WALLPAPER,bespoke DIGITAL wall covering,MURALS-Print2wallpaper and it was excellent! Let me know if I can help at all

PS. Good old Citronic decks! I used to have a pair before upgrading to Vestax PDX-d3's. The Citronics were great though!

Mitsi, did you used to post as Mitsiturbo on the old DJs Connected forum? Either that or your namesake did! Can't remember what my username was tho, all those years ago before it got shut down cos of the bickering
Before you posted I'd already seen your thread, awesome place mate, really nice work! Would love to do my place up similarly but it's rented so there's really a limit as to what I can do.

Cheers for the wallpaper link, think I'm gonna go with one I found tho, here. Cheap as chips! Just knocked up a quick scale version of the top part -

MMM

God damn I want to get this done noooow, but I can't fit anything in my car so still waiting for lifts!

Anyone live in Leamington and fancy a trip to B&Q and Ikea? lol

I did!! What a small world! It must surely be about 7 years since that place was shut down?! I think the Sapphires shop is still around though.

Thanks for the comments mate. Will keep an eye on how yours progresses. If I can help with advice at all then just shout!

Re: Welcome to Casa Zepplin :)

Cheers guys

Yeah the B&W's are cracking - when I demo'd them they instantly had the WOW factor, I still gave them a good listen just to make sure but my first impression was spot on. The sound is lovely through the Arcam, I should probably couple them with a better CD player but for now I'm happy with it.

Just finished the design for the AV unit, here it is to scale, it'll be 190cm wide. The background arrived at my folks yesterday, I'll start a build thread once I get all the parts but need to hire a van first to get the massive slab of MDF home!

Also found a better sofa

Re: Welcome to Casa Zepplin :)

Things are arriving slowly but surely

Picked up the base of the big unit from ikea on Friday, with the back window down it just fitted in my mk1 MX5

Moved things around as to how they will be in the final set up and took a couple of pics. Just got to pick up the wood in the week and I can start on the build, ordering the sofa today so that should be here in a month and I can get rid of the horrible studentesque thing I have at the moment ("Why didn't you tell me that thing gave you backache and bumache?" - my old man the day after a movie night )

Sofa conveniently missed off:

And the reason I chose the place, mezzanine bedroom up above:

It's great having seperate 5.1 and stereo setups, I know the eltax's are cheap and not a patch on the B&W's, but they rarely fail to impress me.

Re: Welcome to Casa Zepplin :)

Time for some updates

First thing, here's my new babys - Quad Lites (aka Dustgatherers) in rosewood, these are so beautiful! The sound quality's great but different to what I usually go for - my B&W's are proper AC/DC (got you by the balls), but the Quads seem to deliver their fidelity without a hint of pretention, if that makes any sense?! Whatever, here's a pic

Secondly, not strictly AV related, my new sofa arrived last night and despite the delivery guys saying "It's not gonna fit mate" three times, we got it into my place in the end

And last but by no means least, I picked up an HD65 which is frikkin AWESOME, don't know how I ever did without one, and haven't switched my telly on since!

The picture covers the light switches, but surprisingly it doesn't bother me... Size matters

Finally, a couple of pics... just because

Denon DVD2200, 480p feed to the HD65 and 5.1 pre-outs on the back to the SR5400. Sounds and looks fantastic

Most of the stereo kit, my first guitar, 60's lamp me dear Nan gave me, and my copy of Led Zep II my old man gave me

Hope y'all like it

Re: Welcome to Casa Zepplin :)

Cheers guys

I'm now happy enough with it for it to feel like home
I reckon the next purchase will be to replace the TV unit (ikea bookcase!) with an identical model in white, finally get round to mounting the telly instead of balancing it precariously behind the centre, and get another white unit for my decks which will sit just out of shot.

Then maybe some disco lighting, a pole and some strippers
