Shane's Setup.

Hi guys

Not really much too see but I thought I would share and get some advice from you lot!

Well at the moment my setup is in my bedroom (I'm only 17) but once I get my own house and more room I'm looking to expand it all.

So here it is...

So as you can see it's all a bit messy at the moment. I've only just moved house about 5 weeks ago so still getting things together (hence no flooring down) I really need to sort out all those cables and crap. I tried trunking but didn't have much luck with it, it looked all crap and messy. Any other ideas of hiding the cables?

Stuck my surround sound on the wall today but not sure if it fits. Still deciding whether to keep them on the wall.

Also wanna look for a new unit to stick all my stuff on. Preferably one with a closed back so I can shove all the wires down the back without them being seen. As you can see, the one I've got now is open so all the wires are on show. Anyone got any good suggestions? Something to go with the furniture would be great.

As for that there is really nothing else that I can do in here. With limited space it's pretty crap, but once I have my own place it's gonna be good.

Anyway, cheers for any help I get with the wire hiding and picking a stand and other crap

Thanks!

Shane.

Indeed 17.

Yeah the dust is gone now. I was drilling the holes for the speakers and didn't realize the dust until I had taken the picture

Re: Shane's Setup.

try and run the wires together down the back panel of the stand. Keep all power together and all av together and cable tie round the holes?

As it's your bedroom holes in the wall are probably a no no? So i wider trunking for the wires up the wall?

Re: Shane's Setup.

What I really wanted to do was run the wires into the wall or something like that and make them come out of the wall where they have too. Haven't got a clue how I would do it or start

Re: Shane's Setup.

I think I will buy that unit thing tomorrow I've measured it all up and it should fit nicely.

The Apple TV is great for anyone wondering! iTunes automatically syncs with it so when my iTunes updates that updates! I love the youtube feature as well so when it comes to watching HD videos on there I can see them nice and clearly. The picture scrolling effects as well while listening to music is brilliant. I can just have my music on while looking at pictures from when Arsenal last won a cup lol.

I'm just gutted that it's whitey/silver. I know Apple's color is white but would prefer it in black. I'm gonna be upgrading to Sky HD soon and with their black boxes the Apple TV is the only thing that's gonna standing out. Might take on the task of spray painting it black!

Re: Shane's Setup.

the trunking can look okay if you paint it the same color as the walls. it disapears more the darker the walls are as well. i used it in my room for surround speakers and you can't spot it, granted mint is running along the top of the skirting. pics are in my sig.

i'd get some wider trunking than the stuff you currently have going to the tv and run all the cables down it. if you wanted to get fancy, get a hollow leg the same type as the leg of your stand. cut it in half lengthways and mounts on wall. it'll match what you have and tidy the cables. B&Q do a pretty wide range of legs in a few different finishes

Getting some trunking tomorrow and gonna finally tidy these cables up a bit! I was really thinking about putting all the cables behind the walls but it's just too much hassle and I wouldn't have a clue where to start!

Will post pics once I've done the cable work

Re: Shane's Setup.

Well my "successful" attempt at hiding the wires pretty much failed!

This is what I've ended up with.

Still have a little more work to do with some of the wires. And my room is gonna get painted soon as well so I suppose the trunking will blend in.

Re: Shane's Setup.

mate I used to work for one of Sony's AV outlets and we delt like stands like that all the time which are vertually impossible to hide all the wires. What we used to do is find the most central cable going down the centre, and wrap the cables to eachother (not power to phonos though for example) and so the cables you actually could see were managed. Im not sure if there are any problems with this but certainly in store it worked fine and looked good, so try keeping all the cables together by wrapping them, either level by level (ie level one all cables linked together going to the floor, then the same with level two) or all together in one drop bringing all cables to the centre (sorta like a tree effect)
