Dan K's Bedroom System

Well,
My age old thread from 2 years ago just had to go. My AV setup's changed quite a bit from the one listed (but sadly the wallpaper and the bed are still there - one of the downsides of living with parents while saving hard for a place of my own).

I use this setup as my AV setup linked with a PC I built recently. This will form the lounge AV system when I move out. The bedroom one is also sorted out, with some of the bits before my recent upgrades.

Kit List:
Samsung LE40A856S1 40" LCD
Arcam AVR280 receiver
Monitor Audio RS6's & RS1's
Soundstyle WG3AV rack
Self-built PC with Core2 Duo 3Ghz, 4Gb Corsair Dominator memory, XFX GTX260 graphics card, 2x 250Gb Samsung Spinpoint SATA drives under RAID 0

Xbox 360 currently not plugged in, as well as Monitor Audio RS LCR (no room for the centre in current room).

2nd system consists of:
Samsung 32" LE32R73BDX LCD
Arcam AVR250
Arcam DV89
Kef IQ1
HP Compaq DC7100 PC, upgraded spec.
.....This system will be the bedroom system for when I get my flat.

...And yes, the wallpaper's shocking, just want to strip the room down and paint it, but will have to approach this very carefully lol.

Anyway, hope you like

Dan.

Cheers Fido. For some reason the wood came out orange-looking probably as photo taken with artificial light. Will probably update it this week with a better one.

Unfortunately would look really bad and may not be totally stable (Had considered it though). In the current 3m x 3m room, the speakers are fairly close together so the need for centre speaker not quite so important. It will be present on top of the rack when LCD mounted to wall when I get a flat though

Really cool set up you've got there mate.

Love how all the wood matches.

Don't think I'd get much sleep in there.

Haven't had a proper chance to set it up right for PC image, but running it through component-out on my graphics card and still looks great, black levels are fantastic. Very fast response too so fast-moving images don't blur etc.

Running at 1600 x 900 which seems best resolution for me. 1920x1080 makes things look too small to be useable in Windows.

Think I'll be buying a calibration DVD in the coming week or so as want to get it set up properly as think my settings are out.

The touch-sensitive buttons on the front aren't a great idea for a dimmed room. Difficult to locate where to press, but it's only a very minor niggle.

Re: Dan K's Bedroom System

Very Nice. I would put the TV on a raiser, appears a little low for bed position and consider putting the XBOX under the raiser or the centre speaker (although as you state the centre is prob. not required). As you state though, depends on the stability of the TV on a raiser.

Just a thought, I like the colour match on the stand to speakers . Nice set up.

Re: Dan K's Bedroom System

Cheers The Snake, had considered getting something to raise the TV so I could place Centre underneath, but didn't get anywhere. I most often sit on the edge of the bed so Centre speaker can be a bit in the way as found. Damn the poor range on the RF version of this keyboard combo though (often unreliable when laying back in bed), the Bluetooth one is so much better range.

Not sure why the picture came out showing the wood to have an orange shade to it, probably the artificial light to be honest though. Everything's in Light Oak. I have RS1's at the other end of the room as my surrounds.

It's all a temporary at the moment til I buy a flat next year, that'll be the proper setup, but this'll do for now

Currys have that stand on their web site for £48.90! And they are out of stock! Shurely some mishtake.

Re: Dan K's Bedroom System

Very smart looking set up! As others have said I love the match of the stand and speakers. Looks really excellent!

Any possibility of mounting the TV on the wall to give you space for the centre on the top of the rack? I guess your folks might not want repairs to do when you move out.

Re: Dan K's Bedroom System

Fairly sure I saw it somewhere recently at £129 which is great value.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments

Still finishing off decorating here, so expect some pictures in the near future without the awful decor as that has all changed. The room is now painted and the AV wall is now a feature wall, coving has been fitted today but yet to paint it - room is looking a lot nicer anway.

Wow, it's late. Better get some shuteye

Re: Dan K's Bedroom System

Watch this space, some changes coming:

Monitor Audio RS6's, RS1's & RS LCR all sold and gone (makes for a very empty room).

Hideous wallpaper stripped & room has been painted now inc feature wall (well, just a bit of gloss and some paint on the coving required now)

New curtains being made, arriving in about a month.

New bed should be arriving this week.

Monitor Audio GS20's (Natural Oak) - deposit placed yesterday, balance being paid end of month so will pick up then.

Currently running on a spare pair of speakers - Kef IQ1's which site on the AV rack, either side of my TV for now.

Also sold on the spare AVR250 this weekend. Given up on having a 2nd system, just going to make sure the main system is decent.

Dan.

Re: Dan K's Bedroom System

Update:

New bed arrived today.
Almost all the painting has been done (except the coving and a very minor bit of glossing)
Thought I'd update with a current pic. Excuse the mess of CD's etc.
New funky curtains arrive in about 3 weeks too.

Monitor Audio RS series gone, Kef IQ1's temporarily taking their place til I get my Monitor Audio GS20's end of month, can't wait. Put a deposit down but get a demo of them on Saturday at my local retailer.

Hi Dunkle,
The large Tesco in Peterborough has a mall built in, and there's normally a stand selling pictures. Bet you'll be surprised to hear it was only £80.

It's about 160cm x 70cm. This one's called 'Avis de coup de vent sur Les Poulains'. A google search will likely show a higher res of this image.

Dan.

Now I'm just plain jeaous lol

Next steps for me will be to add GSFX / GS10's, GS LCR, and then further down the line I'll demo the AVR600 when funds allow once I've got a flat. May be some time though.

Reckon I'll buy a flat around June to September, then buy the rest of the GS set within about 12 months. Raising £3k for AVR600 may take a lot longer though

Re: Dan K's Bedroom System

Update - GS20's arrived. They're stunning and a good step above the RS6's, even straight out of the box (really big boxes I might add).

Got the curtains too, so took a couple of pictures.

Re: Dan K's Bedroom System

Cheers Rustyman1, A sub whilst at my folks would be sure of causing a few arguments lol.

A flat for me won't be long. Just organised a viewing, a couple of months earlier than I'd planned, but place looks promising so thought I'd take a look.

Can't wait to have my own place later this year
