Potatoe Farmers First Setup

Ok, this is my first AV setup!

The last two years i have been using a Wharfdale 14" CRT which i got from ARGOS a good few years back, and i have been using my 360 CORE for dvd playback. iv had quite a huge tech jump, going from 14" CRT to 46" 1080p LCD and im loving it! iv also got a new kitchen, yippee! and my very first surround sound setup! its an wxpenive hobby!

Over the last couple months i have got kitted out with the following:
TOSHIBA 46ZF355 LCD
SONY HTSF1300 5:1
SONY DVP NS708H DVD UPSCALER REGION FREE HACKED
SKY+
SONY PS3 80GB
Wii
360 CORE

Yeah i have got the av bug i think! any suggestions to improve would be great! also i think im in need of a super duper remote, any recomendations?

So far the only Blueray iv watched is Transformers last night, awesome PQ, but silly film in my opinion. can anyone recomend a good blueray film wich will show off my set up?

pics are from camera phone, sorry.

Re: Potatoe Farmers First Setup

That's a great setup you have and what a kitchen! (ours currently looks like yours did!).

Regarding a remote, the Logitech Harmony One is well regarded. If you need radio frequency as well as infra-red (to control kit in cupboards/other rooms or to power on remote plugs) have a look at the Harmony 895. The cheaper Harmonies (525 and 555) are also good pieces of kit.

Yes, any of the Pixar titles look fantastic in HD.

Re: Potatoe Farmers First Setup

Someone likes Sony and Ikea.

Thats a really nice set up mate. I didn't like the overhead cabinet parts that Ikea do, but thats actually growing on me.

Edit Iron Man, or Incredible Hulk look good in BD. Or Troy is a great movie to show a system off.

Re: Potatoe Farmers First Setup

A very tidy setup!
Will your equipment be able to withstand the heat build up inside the cabinet, especially in summer?

A good BLURAY to try is KungFu Panda, for pic and sound.

Love the unit mate, gloss black is where it's at! Cool set-up.

I don't think you can go wrong with Blackhawk down on bluray, I know it's been done to death but you can pick it up pretty cheap now off the net and it's well worth it imo!

Re: Potatoe Farmers First Setup

With regards to heat build up, im sure it wil be fine, the middle section with most of my equiptment is actually open at the back, and it is about 20mm away from the wall.

i have one of those infrared thingy me bobbies so i can use sky+ with the shelf door closed maintaining the clean look.

also i was really pleased that i just about managed to sqeeze my sony amp and sony DVD upscaler into just one of the shelfs! and that they nearly look like one unit together (not intentional).

how do i change the way the pics presented so that they are all shown in big?

the only other BD i have is ZODIAC which i havent watched yet.

yeah im loving the gloss black, the PS3 looks quality, black on black.

bad point, all it gloss black goodness turns it into one huge dust sucking machine!

Excellent setup- and like The Snake said, ironman is a quality film and looks stunning on blu-ray.

Re: Potatoe Farmers First Setup

Unfortuneatly im afraid im not a real farmer, but i'm irish and we're very fond of the potatoes. i am actually a builder from London, and this is my first house, im 25.

APHILLIP the kitchen is from Howdens Joinary LTD,they are "trade" only BRANCH OF MFI, but there quality compared to the likeS of B & Q is much better, it is a gloss white slab door but with the quality, it is really a fat, solid SLAB door. however prob about the same money as B&Q even with ridgid units. maybe u should check it out?

as for BDs iv taken note of ure comments and have just purchased IRON MAN, KUNG FOO PANDA, CLOVERFIELD, SUNSHINE, APOCALYPITO and BAND OF BROTHERS! i also have TRANSFORMERS and ZODIAC.

i think for my 2nd ever BD ill give IRON MAN a go, iv not seen it on dvd either. i have a friend coming round who thinks there will be no differene between DVD and BD, im hoping its a good choice to make him see the quality (show off my setup!)

cheers Potatoe Muncher

I find that some of my mates are either very synical towards high def and refuse to admit it looks good for some reason and others that honestly can't tell the difference. For the latter theres no hope

Be interested to hear how iron man is as a film, I know people rave about how it looks but I'm holding back, not sure if it's my bag!

Good luck

Sam

Re: Potatoe Farmers First Setup

NickyMarshall! crytisism is cool with me. but i am well happy with the set up, as i said earlyer, only a couple of months back all i had was a tiny little Wharfdale CRT- "Bad times", so for me this is "Good times". How do u mean cold, the colour of the walls or the av furniture?

Watched IRON MAN last night very good PQ but different scenes seem to look better than others? my friend could see no difference between BD and a standard DVD. as a BD that people rave about i was a bit disapointed.

i am thinking for me it will be like VHS to DVD, i couldnt tell the difference when watching a DVD. once i was used to DVD and then watched a VHS i was like "what the ****?" DVD was miles better. at the mo i think i would continue to buy DVDs and only certain BDs. im hoping when i next watch a standard dvd on my upscaler that the poor PQ will bother me, but i dont think it will?

my next BD will be WANTED, BATMAN and WALL-E.

He probably meant the wall colours, a nice mushroom colour would be warmer
http://www.dulux.co.uk/servlet/Colou...ild_mushroom_4
(my opinion)
But still a very striking set up, I could see a lot of effort has gone into it.

My BD vs DVD picture is night and day, maybe I was using the same player for comparison?

I think your room is excellent and I personally love the over the TV storage. Very continental looking and many people in Europe have set up's like this.

Well done, and hello from a fellow Irishman!

Using Wild Mushroom 4
(my opinion)
I have to agree on this, sorry Patotoe Farmer, with a change in wall colour to a more warmer say mushroom colour, especially with the floor colour etc, it would look better, its the one thing that noticeably lets the room down. The tv units etc look fine to me.

Its difficult to pull what looks like lime green off in a room. If you want green stick a yucca plant in there.

No, the AV furniture is fine - I think it's just the colour of the walls as others have said.

Re: Iron Man - I watched it on Friday and whilst it was a good film, I didn't see the reference quality that I've read about tbh.

Incredible unit you have there - certainly looks solid! I like the narrow frame of the tosh too - makes the screen itself appear much larger (I missed a trick there!). Top job!
