MAX1210's Humble Setup

When SWMBO & I first moved in together, this is how I first had it set up - on it's matching stand, with the IKEA Dioder lights behind - blue for normal watching, green for football You can just about make out the IKEA bookshelf unit on the left, when my daughter began to crawl and climb up things (like the bookcase) I knew it was time to change things...

I had a Sony Receiver, Tannoy Speakers, Soundstyle Rack & Pana Wall Bracket in storage (after moving out of my 'batchelor pad') Had never used the wall bracket, I got it 'just-in-case' I ever wanted to wall mount. I managed to convince SWMBO to move the TV from the corner and set up the home cinema system here as well, all I had to do know was convince my landlord.....but he was totally cool about it, he's actually a builder by trade so was very keen to come round and help (he probably didn't trust me and thought I would've taken the whole wall down haha) I figured out the wall was dot-n-dab plasterboard so used some RIGIFIX bolts to mount the bracket to the wall. Also hid all power, aerial, satellite, telephone & speaker cables in D-Line trunking along the top of the skirtingboard.

I wasn't too happy about the size of the Soundstyle rack in the room, so went about looking for something a little smaller, and something that would hide the equipment from 'little fingers' so found this S&C ZIN422510/BKI stand at Comet - cheap but does the job very well - with it being lower, it shows off the wall mount better as well. Also got a Sky+HD box around this time too

So the latest update has been the speakers, decided to get rid of my faithful Tannoy/Jamo setup and go for something a lit more modern - so got a fantastic bargain on a brand new, boxed set of KEF KHT3005SE's and wall mounted the front & surrounds, and hid the (awesome) subwoofer under the coffee stable on the left hand side. Also painted over the silver D-Line trunking up to the TV to make it a little more discrete.

Next upgrade (I hope sometime around christmas) will be to a 50" Plasma instead of the 42"

Looking very nice mate.

I am just starting to renovate our home cinema and have only just today decided to go for exactly the same setup, using the same av cabinet!

I'm also going to use the d line trunking, is the self adhesive backing strong?
Also, what size trunking and accessory kit did you use to along the skirting board?

I will be doing a thread of my own shortly, but I've got a bit more work to do as Im removing a radiator and capping off the pipe work before I start to wall mount the tv.

I used the 40mm x 20mm trunking and accessory pack D-Line Semi Circular Trunking White 6 x 40 x 20mm 2m Pack of 6 | Screwfix.com On my walls it is certainly strong enough, especially as one of them is holding 2 x sat cables, 2 x aerial cables, telephone cable and the mains cable from a Tacima mains conditioner.

I like "evolution" photos. Looks great, some great work there with the wiring. I'd be very pleased with that.

Hey i love that Sony str-db1080 - it was one of my first av recievers i especially loved the ' Cinema Studio Ex A ' dsps through the avr. Although i remember the remote to be a chore to use :D great setup mate, and certainly show that not everyone needs Lossless audio codecs !

Cheers - however the BD80 BluRay player has 5.1 (well 7.1 but I only use 5.1) analogue audio outputs and the DB1080 has multi-channel inputs, so I am getting lossless audio

Great setup.

I like what you have done with the cables. Its been bugging me how to get the rear speaker cables sorted in my new house when i move and this might be an option. Still got the issues of getting past the door though

The sub under the table made me smile, it reminds me of a cat hiding under the table, it has that sort of look.

Hey buddy - sorry I didn't realise your Blu-ray had RCA 5.1

Perfect well done! How are the DACs in the Bluray? Got to love those KEF eggs, good sound, stylish, and has WAF!!!

And I agree you don't need the warning on the top - you don't need to defend your setup to us, just enjoy it! :D

p.s.

Don't caveat it with this is nothing special.

I willing to wager that whenever you have anyone around they comment on how great it is.

It doesn't matter if you have a £500 or £500k AV setup, its miles better than 99% of the population.

Ok, due to some comments, I'm taking my 'warning' off the top of the page
