This is an amazing achievement. The journey is incredible, and it is still evolving. You have a brilliant set-up there mate, well done! Great choice on the (original) sub. I have had a PV1 for 7 years and it still blows me and the neighbours away.

I am in the planning stages of my loft cinema and have taken great inspiration from these pages...watch out for my thead soon to be started

Keep up the good work, if only you were closer I would love to experience your cinema and dream of what might be in my loft!!

No, the front will stay black and the sides this new deep green. Just watched ides of March and the darker green has really made difference. It looks so much better in there.

I think I am finally done... Am I ?? Or is there anything else i can add?

Thank you. It's been fun. If you PM me and fancy a trip to see it, I would be more than happy to organise something for you.

Good luck with yours you won't be disappointed. It's now been 2 months since we watched anything in the lounge.

I do keep looking at them. I might look into having them done properly. Any place suggestions?

Best have a look at the instructions Some speakers state you should only spray them, but for most of them you'll be fine just painting them in the same emulsion you're using for the walls. Will complete the "stealth" effect nicely as no-one will know where the speakers are installed

Finally...

After over 16 weeks, the footstools to the sofas arrived. Had pretty much forgotten about them. Had been using 1 from the sofa downstairs.

With all this crappy weather recently it's been great to have some where to go to chill out.

Feet up, nice glass of wine and a movie... Ahhhh

Hi, I had just started the process for getting my loft converted and came across your thread. A fantastic conversion and has provided plenty of ideas as my loft is similar in dimensions. I see you used Kef Ci's for the forward speakers but which models did you use for the rear four?

Thank you.
Speakers - Kef Ci 200.3qs (2x side channels)
Speakers - Kef Ci 200.3qr (2x rear channels)

My future plan would be to swap them out and go total B&W.

Hi, what colour and paint did you use for the loft? Love the scheme and was interested in replicating it.

Thanks mate

This is an absolute inspiration mate, spent the night showing the Mrs pictures at various stages. Your setup is very similar in size to Albriscoe who is in Normanton, maybe you could draw your next inspiration from his house build threads!

We plan on moving shortly and I was wondering if there were any rules of thumb in terms of the loft conversion being viable for a particular property? I guess the pitch of the roof would need to be fairly steep and the location of the stairs would be a big consideration. As for the planning, are there any obvious things that might mean permission wouldn't be granted?

Highlights for me were the attention to detail and the continued desire to upgrade! I did prefer the original green though :-)

Depending on what you'd be looking out onto, and depending on what other streets have in the road, dormer windows can sometimes be an issue - alot of loft conversions need these to make the space viable.

Thank you very much. It's been the best investment I have made. Well, since I bought 5000 shares in Facebook in 2004 <joking>

Will check out Albriscoe, thank you. Am actually itching to do something else. Gutted to see the projector has already been superseded by the 6000 Now. Arrrgggg!!!

Smurfin has the answer to be honest. I don't overlook anyone as I had the windows a little higher too. I have to stand of a footstool to spy on the neighbours now. You don't actually have to apply for planning permission, you just have to notify the council of the work. (building regs)

Check out this

You like the original green? Seriously, I don't think the pics do it justice. The darker one looks amazing now and it helps the light levels too.

The main thing I think I have to say is you should definitely have the projector calibrated when finished. I can't get over the fact watching movies up there is better than going to the flix.

You will not regret doing this... only your neighbours will when you crank it RIGHT UP!!!!

Thank you.

No planning permission require Minineil. Just building regs as I mention in the post above #497.

Fabulous looking cinema!
If you do intend to upgrade in the future, here are my suggestions:-
Ideally the center channel should upright. Even though it’s designed to be orientated either way, it will still sound different on its side or upright. Three identical speakers orientated the same way is the only way to get a perfect front sound stage.
The main left and right speakers are too far apart. Although there are recommended widths v distances which are well worth looking at, you have to try and keep front speakers away from walls. In their current location you’ll be hearing far too little direct sound from them. This would also mean the side wall absorbers wouldn’t be required – and these are absorbing the sound from the speakers – a bit riding you bike with the brakes on.
If you want to improve the dynamics so that gunshots for example sound more lifelike and effortless consider changing to front speaker of a different design. Three mid-range units really aren’t required in a room this size, however multiple tweeters would give the system a lot more headroom.
Congratulations on a terrific looking room.

Wow thanks for the feedback Rob. I appreciate the time you have given to this. In an ideal world I would like to replace all the speakers with B&W. I honestly can't begin to tell you how amazing the sub woofer sounds.

Just bought a new car so any plans up there are on hold right now

It's been the best investment ever and can't recommend enough to any movie lover to seriously look in their loft to see if the space can be used.

I changed from selling stereos 25 years ago to just cinemas partially because people get so much more use from them. The whole family can enjoy a cinema together, watching TV, but who has time for hifi?

If you do ever want to upgrade, I hope you have a thorough audition to all the alternatives possible as hifi speakers typically wont give the best home cinema performance....as many people have found out.

A very impressive room.

Very much an inspiration for my new set up. You've raised the bar.

Stunning. Credit to all your hard work.

Can't wait to get my house end of next year and get a home cinema thread started. All of these threads inspire me!
