Thanks Scott. I've only just realised that where your amp sits isn't actually a "unit" at all...
The bottom is toughened glass shelf, and the top is the same, running the length of the whole unit.
Is that right?

What do you have in the Besta units to the sides?

Yes 6mm glass on top and 10mm on the bottom.

The top is in 3 sections butted up to each other.

All the black/brown besta units are covered in black 6mm glass including the sides.

Cool. What did you use to bond the glass to the cabinets?

Did you do the same for the doors, or are they regular ikea glass doors?

I have had 2 Onkyo's repaired under warranty for HDMI card issues, both a 606 and a 607. Even when i'm not driving any sound out, if the amp is just on sitting idle it kicks out a shed load of heat. I used to keep it in a unit with nothing on top of it, but the sound kept on clipping every so often, so I had to move it out on top of a separate unit and it's been fine ever since. I'm not even sure i'd risk buying another Onkyo again after this as I am pretty sure my current one will break in the same fashion again now it's out of warranty.

Very nice setup mate, nice and clean looking. I know many have already asked regarding the Besta units either side of the amp, DVD player etc, but unfortunately cannot find them on the ikea site...
In desperate need to tidy up my setup haha

You don't happen to have the link to the units and the glass doors mate do you?

Thanks in advance and all the best for the new year ahead.

How did you hide all of your cables behind the amp & equipment? You have a false wall there?

Onkyo 609 fits in ok and I have also cut the back out of my floating wall so there is plenty of space.

Manufacturers seem to be making the newer models less deep.
Im figuring out the size for my custom unit. As I also have the 609, I think I will go for 42cm deep, as 45 seems to be an overkill allready...

All the grey section is built off the wall

2" x 1" lats
18mm plywood
9mm plaster board
plastered front , sides and top.
equals 50mm.

Cracking mate, thanks very much for the info. Yeah, going to have to go for the single units, then create the bridge somehow. May just buy a couple of sheets of black/brown desk top... Need to look further.

Thanks again mate. Will be posting pics when done 😉

Just a quick one mate and apologies if I've missed it. What height are the unit from the floor?
And what's the distance between the cabinets and the bottom of the tv?

Hopefully picking some units up tomorrow, although cant decide whether to have two taller cabinets at the end or go for the same height as the middle "bridging" unit ...

Cheers

Sorry for the delay.
I wanted the centre of the TV , left and right speakers all at eye and ear height from a seated position on the sofa.
So everything worked around that.

this is the height in cm of everything

TV 73cm

gap 10cm

unit 39cm

gap 14.4cm

floor.

I hope that makes sense.

The light switch is wickes own brand £20 including a remote.
The actual switch is made by G.E.T. This make sells in B & Q for a lot more money about £35 and the remote is extra.

I'm going for a similar look in new house in feb/march. Tiled gloss white floors but sticking with the white theme I already have but adding the purple lighting your using as the splash of colour with the white and grey.
Great setup

Go for the remote controlled colour change LED strip , what ever colour you want. The colour change always look good against white.

Really!? Just bought some but didn't see the glass option... Wish I had though.

EDIT: found them!

I was considering using the Ikea units for my new set up, but I have a depth issue. My Pioneer amp is 440mm deep and the Besta stuff is only 400mm.

Wish I could find a way around this, could save me a fortune!!
it says besta is 490mm but i saw how the amp sticks out. i have an onkyo 709 so i guess similar depth (says 379 on richer sounds). i need glass fronts to stop my son getting at the kit so would look at fitting doors somehow.

scott: are you saying that all the units are black with additional black glass to make it gloss looking?

you have made me tempted now. i was looking at walnut units initially

edit: btw - nice work scott. looks really slick. i thought it was a mega $£$ setup when i first saw it!

the besta stuff is a big range , including many types of unit.

Paulw mentioned 60cm x 120 cm glass but this will not fit on my besta units. also I have had custom glass made for all the sides of the units. No black brown showing at all.

The units are black brown finish and the doors are gloss black. Even up close the finish looks good.

If you need to make it child proof with doors then you will struggle with over heating problems for your amp. most people with young children get one of the free standing besta units in gloss black and open the small forward opening doors when they use their AV sysytem. this makes things cheaper due to no custom glass being required.

Usually the higher spec and older your amp is the deeper they are. I have cut out the back of my floating wall to bring the cables in and this gave me more space.

It was not mega $£$ money but it still cost a fair amount, most people dont want to spend £1500 - £1800 just on materials and units for a floating wall , without any labour included. The floor was £1200 without labour plus new skirting boards etc. I bought a new TV, amp and blu ray player. Brand new full glass dining table, new chairs, new leather lounger. Also new upright designer radiator.

maybe I should not add it up ? New sofa is needed soon.
