I ended up getting the Microsmith HotLink Pro XL wired IR extender kit, and it works so much better than the wireless Powermid kit.
Hagur,

The system you bought does it have a limit to how many devises you can control?

Thanks

Phil.

Hi Phil,
Just had to say I love the way you've tackled the projector screen install, very nice idea that mate, making it look like its part of the fireplace chimney. Very impressed

Linx08

Thanks for that, Im glad you like it.

Basically, I have cut out an opening in the ceiling and boxed in using half inch fire line board. The screen is then fixed just above the ceiling that is in the garage attic space. The way it is boxed in, is so that I have access to it from the void for any maintenance of wiring or adjusting the screen drop etc.

If it ever failed, I just pop into the garage attic space, unscrew and change the screen over without damaging the coving around the chimney breast etc.

Thanks again for your thumbs up!

I have recently fitted Chrome Sockets to all the existing power outlets and phone sockets. These are from the same brand to match the Varilights.

For the two way lighting, I have used the Varilght remote dimmers along with a slave.

You can control these from any existing remote, even the Sky remote control. Very impressed with them.

Aav

In the next few weeks I am going to start the next phase in my AV setup. The first will be to setup streaming from a new Xbox to the big screen & plasma until I have my HTP in place.

At the same time I am going to start to add the Cat6 Cables to all other locations, I already have these setup in my office and a couple of bedrooms etc. The idea is to have HDMI Balluns feeding all the other locations.

I welcome any ideas from all, what and if there are any newer brands available etc.

I will start with building a rack for all the gear that has to go in. PS3 Slim, XBox and all the AV gear etc. I want to get the garage back to being tidy and to be able to use our pool table etc.

Quite a few jobs still to do before I start on the next phase of my AV whole house setup.
Sealing to Slate Floor in the Kitchen.
Office is completed.
Hallway is completed, along with utility room. All cabling is in the ceiling areas ready for ceiling speakers.
Office is already cabled up with cat5e and working.

Kitchen still to be decorated and AV equipment installed.

All in, including an extension, roughly about 40k without any of the electrical, AV and furnishings.

Hello mate

Been following your build from the start, great setup btw.

Since you asked the question, I cant for the life of me remember how I did it.

Anyway, what I will do is have a little tinker around and get back to you as soon as I can. I think its called brain drain!

Hi
Great setup , How good are the speakers you have? Do they fill the room well?
Thinking of getting rid of my Bose Acc 15 and replacing them with the Jamos..

Thanks, The Jamo's really do fill the room, I am really pleased with the sound. Everyone who comes into the room comments on how good the sound system is. You would not think that these little speakers could pump out all that sound.

looks great Phil.

Did you finish off the opening hole for the pj screen to come out of with the brush thing you mentioned? If so, what did you use? Any pics?

Thanks for the comments Superdon.

At the moment I have not finished off the opening. I am still waiting to source the brush to cover the gap.

As soon as I have it finished I will post a few pics up.

I am going to be looking to fill a very similar gap myself in the next couple of weeks and dont know what to use. Any ideas at the moment? Are you thinking draught excluder type brush? Have been looking and cant find anything longer than door width.

You guessed it right mate.

I am waiting for a supplier to get back to me about supplying me an over sized draught excluder. Once he contacts me I will pm you the details.

Another idea was to use a plastic trim type thingy, but at the time I just could not find what I wanted.

Regards

Phil.

Hi,

The HotLink Pro XL comes with six mini blasters as standard. Should you need to control more than 6 devices, you can purchase the "Emitter expansion kit":

Microsmith Hot Link: | Emitter Expansion Kit X6

I will post some updates tomorrowish, I have wired up the rest of my Cat6 network etc. Hooked up the PS3 and can't believe how good the picture quality is on Bluray.

All the bedrooms are now wired up, hopefully, this will now stop the little squabbles with the kids trying to get to the PC first. They all have an LCD & PC, PS3 and an Xbox in their bedrooms. (Wish I had that when I was a kid)

Still not quite finished yet, I ran out of fittings yesterday so will have to stock up later in the week. Hopefully post the bedroom pics as well soon.

Anyone reccomend a good router Hub/Switch? I need to extend the router as it only has four ports.

My New Home Cinema & Refurbishment.-20090511-harmony_ps3_hands.jpg

Added one of these clever little gadgets to my collection over the weekend. Its so the Harmony can work the PS3 flawlessly, and it works spot on!

This item is great. There is no time lag. It allows the harmony remotes to turn off the PS3 with a single click (not available on the original remote).

This adapter takes the place of the PS3 remote on your PS3 (rather than a generic bluetooth device) so you cannot use a Harmony remote and an original PS3 remote at the same time.

It is very easy to set-up: use the PS3 menu to pair it (let it know that its there) and that's it! Just what you need!

I also added the GS108 8 Port Gigabit Switch to my collection. This speeds things up a little in my setup as well as giving me 8 more ports.

Hi mate, lovely conversion there!

Does this give the Harmony exactly the same functionality as the PS3 remote?

Where did you get it from btw?

Cheers

Jason
