My 1st house home cinema (more pics to follow as it gets more finished)

I've just posted this up in the mixed HT thread, and I thought I'd post this as a start.

We just bought our first house which was quite a mess and hadn't been updated since 1972. All the walls were rotten, the plumbing didn't work properly, the house needed a complete rewire etc. On top of that I wanted to get all the wires etc. chased into the walls - I wasn't really up to it myself unfortunately, especially on a small timescale (2 months for the whole house) so I got a builder to do it all for us.

So t's not quite finished yet, but I'll add more pictures once it's a bit more fully set up. Alas, I didn't really have much opportunity to post pictures as it was done, so there'll only be before and after pictures, no pictures of how it as done.

Before:

After:

There's still quite a lot more I want to do with this, but at the moment my equipment is:

B&W 805S fronts
Mordaunt Short 905i centre (first on the upgrade list)
B&W DS7 surrounds
Monolith DF sub

Denon AVR-2307 amp (next on the upgrade list, but the Rotel 1570/1575 I want will take some saving up!)
Rotel RMB-1072 power amp for the front L+R
Toshiba HD-EP30 HD-DVD (to be replaced sometime soon with a Sony BDP-S360 Blu-ray player)
Sky HD
X-box 360 (which I'd like to replace with an elite, partly 'cause I want all the equipment to be black, partly because the current one doesn't do HDMI, and partly because if I wanted to get a simpler pre/pro amp which didn't upscale it would be easier (e.g Audiolab 800AP). Also partly because a friend spilled vodka on it and now it's a little sticky!)

Toshiba standard sort of 32" TV
Optoma HD700x projector (4th on the upgrade list??)
Cheapish 92" pull down screen
Standard sort of HDMI splitter so I can show all this on either screen easily.

All controlled by Harmony One.
Lighting is controlled by a Lutron Grafik-Eye GRX-3106.

Things I still need to do to the room are:

Tidy up some more stuff (there's boxes everywhere, just hidden temporarily for the photo)
Add another 2 speakers at the rear (B&W 685s perhaps)
There's a few areas around the edge which need oak beading to cover edges, e.g. around the fireplace.
Replace the 92" pull down screen with a 100" electric one, perhaps with 12V trigger.

Hi ya,
Thats a real improvement! (Obviously!!)
Is it the camera angle that makes the pj screen look about 3 miles from the sofa?
And did you keep the lovely 1970's curtains?.....

cheers

Yeah, that's an effect of the 10mm lens. It's about 3.5m wide, and about 4.5m from the sofa to the screen. The camera makes it look a lot longer and narrower than it is, but it's just aboout the right distance for the size of screen.

Oh, and no, we chucked the '70s curtains!

10mm lens. wow. Does really make it look long and narrow. I bet its perfect in reality

Is it me, or does everyone who owns a monolith use it as a table

Good job

Thanks for the positive feedback guys - I'll try and get some more photos up later (with a narrower angle lens??) but may be delayed by the arrival of new pets...

And as to the monolith being used as a table - my sister (who is very technophobic I should add) sat next to it with Star Wars - Revenge of the Sith on and thought it was just a side table and the speakers were incredibly bassy! If anyone is not sure if the monolith would fit in their room, it definitely does easily pass as a piece of funiture and is a very accomplished sub - to me it sounds better than my old SVS cylinder.
