Smile "The Missus' Idea (At least she thinks it was!) Project

It been a few years in the preparing stages, but finally managed to convince her that is was her idea and the rest is history.

I'm already quite a way through the design phase, many thanks for the quality advice from this forums, especially elootos Media Center House on which my design was based (and also the primary reason I managed to talk the wife around) but here are a few photos of what things looked like up to now.

Chimney Breast Design

Wiring Diagram

Where it all started

Cardboard Cutout Test

Wooden Frame Stage 1

Initial Size/Height/Position/Sounds Test (I know X-Factor, not the best to test with - See Thread Title, Small price to pay)

SubWoofer option in chimney breast

Wooden Fram State 2 (Plasterboard) scheduled for Tuesday this week, with the plasterer coming on Saturday, so progress should be pretty swift from now on

looks like an interesting thread, certainly keep my eyes on it. Similar sort of room I hope to get my hands on when I finally move in with the bf, one with plenty of potential!

I'm planning to have hole in the side of the chimney breast as per the photo with a speaker grill over it. Would this still cause muffled bass?

Wooden Frame Phase 2 (Plasterboard + Wall Bracket + Removal of the retro light fittings )

Sub Woofer housing (still need to work out how I'm going to stop any potential rattle)

More photos once the plasterer has been on Saturday.

After spending about an hour trying to figure out how the Tosh stand actually came off, I finally managed to get the thing mounted and......I Like!!!

For any of you who saw my thread on When 46" is too bid!, the comment "Go BIG! You wont regret it " by 007geezer couldn't be more true!! The wife was even saying, "Would a 50" fix in that hole"

Fire in place and I'm lovin the effect on the ceiling, don't think it'll take long to wear off tho!!

One minor annoyance is the illuminated Toshiba logo on the bottom of the Screen. Seems to be more noticable when the lights are out. I'm hoping there is some kind of menu setting that will disable it, or I'll be stripping down the case and pulling the bulb out

Plasterer due tommorrow and then its just paint and enjoy

though I read somewhere that the logo light can be turned off?

I was gonna buy one for the bedroom and narrowed it down to the Tosh and a Samsung - but on here somewhere it said the logo can be switched off

This is from the manual, although it does say Model Dependant. I've not tried it out on mine since its back in the box until the painters been in.
Will post as soon as I've had a chance to setup and check.

I have a Tosh with the illuminated logo and I can switch mine off:

Menu button
scroll across to FUNCTION
scroll down to Logo LED
scroll right to "OFF"

Hopefully yours will be the same

What is your model number? Perhaps we can get a definitive list?

Its shows in your diagram you are having a ps3 in a different room, how are you going to get the controllers to work?

I have the wireless controllers. The benefit is that the room with the PS3 is almost directly behind the room with the TV in it, so the extra distance is only minimal. I've tested and the controllers work from the back of the room with the TV in. It approximately 5 metres to the wall and then through 30cm of wall and the PS3 is right by the wall.

Looking good so far....will keep an eye on the progress. Not sure I would put the sub that high off the floor thou. It will sound better and the bass will travel around the room better if its on the floor. Maybe you could leave the gap behind the stud wall for the sub and just place it on the floor instead. Have you done any tests?

Hi, its a possibility, although I may struggle to get the sub on the floor now due to the studwork. I'm nearly at the testing phase, so will let you know how it performs.

Major progress over the past few weeks, only restricted by the (apparently more important) wrapping of Christmas presents!

Paint finished.

Wallpaper and New Light fitted (This may look like a big light but trust me, you didn't see the 1st one)

Speaker cable run using gaffer tape to secure on the floor! (Not too sure how long it would last if the carpet was staying, but I'm planning to get a channel cutout in the laminate when we get it fitted so no pressure on the cables.

In order to allow the speakers to point in a few degrees I'm trialling a few different angled pieces of wood for the mount. Need to wait until the furniture is in the final positions until I select the right one.

And the final mount, I'm pretty happy with.

TV and Fire fitted and lookin good!!! Initial tests on furniture position, shame about the carpet we had to leave down as the flooring won't be in until the New Year!!

At last, the lying on the couch watchin me new TV shot. It been a long wait but I'm on the home straight....

I'm just about to upload some of the latest photos etc and I've noticed that my pixa hosting site appears to be having problems when displaying photos from link in this forum.

Anyone else seeing this issue?

Many thanks Le_Bec, photobucket looks a far better option, just spend the last 2 hours setting up my account and refreshing all the links from the whole thread with the pics, not something I want to do again in a hurry, I could have been progressing with the finishing touched!!!

I'm sure pixa.us are a good hosting provider, but they've corrupted a number of my pictures and the link from this forum stopped working, so I wouldn't recommend them to anyone!!

Anyway, hopefully I get some time this week to upload the latest wiring diagrams as I've made some aquisitions which have changed things slightly. I've also included CAT5 and Telephone wiring for the complete solution.

I still have it in there, and I've tried a few films with positive results (i.e. no major vibrations and good bass output). As with most home cinema setups its a case of compromise, and I think based on the performance I've seen so far and the benefits by leaving it in there with a speaker cover over I think I'll probably stick with the setup. Anyone else doing this and found any vibration problems?

Agreed mate, she's moved onto the kitchen now, so I've got to get her back on track. We've been without radiators since the platerer was in, so they are getting fitted on Friday and after that we can start using the room a bit more!! Not great sitting with a fleece on watching movies, but its been worth it!!
